Bloggers Unite For Dog Rescue.

Today I am participating in the Bloggers Unite for Dog Rescue, a special online global event held on July 23, 2012 stressing the importance of dog adoption. Dog Rescue Success  is proud to partner with BTC4animals.com and YOU to harness a global online community to help save the lives of dogs in need.

When I first learned about Bloggers Unite For Dog Rescue I immediately started brainstorming of what my post for this monumental blogging event would be about.

I can’t sit here and tell you that I think no one should ever obtain a dog through a reputable breeder. I can’t sit here and tell you that as long as dogs are in shelters no dog should ever be bred. That is not what I believe.

What I do believe is that responsible pet ownership and pet education is key in regards to tackling the issues with pets in shelters.

Educating and creating awareness of puppy mills and backyard breeders is key.

Stopping the sale of dogs in pet stores through awareness is key. Don’t be an accidental supporter.

Helping local shelters anyway you can is key.

Just the other day my son and I took a box full of treats to the Medina County SPCA. I had bags upon bags of treats left over from products reviews. Bags that weren’t open and were just sitting on the counter waiting for someone to eat them. When Bobby handed the box of treats to one of the volunteers at the shelter she was excited and grateful. I asked the volunteer if they were looking for anything specific in the form of donations and she handed me a list. This is a great thing to do when you visit your local shelter, ask them for a list of products that they are in need of.

Assisting local shelters through another form of social media like blogging to get their adoptions and shelters seen is important.

I have a camera and I have a blog. The world of social media is at my fingertips!

I was lucky enough to have an adoption event being held right down the road from me this weekend.

This was a great opportunity for me to get out there and do some good for Bloggers Unite Against Animal Abuse.

There was various rescue organizations there from around Ohio with pets that were up for adoption and I would like to take this time to introduce you to a few of them.

Meet Shannon:

Shannon just flew into Cleveland on Thursday from California and is being fostered through R.E.A.L Rottweiler Rescue. She has a suspected birth defect on her right front leg and will be seeking medical attention this week where they will determine if her condition is treatable or if her leg will need to be amputated. You can see more of Shannon on their Facebook Page.

Meet Dumas:

A beautiful  2 1/2 year old Greyhound who was rescued from the racetrack and was fostered through Erie Shore Greyhound Adoption of Ohio.

I say was fostered because she is being adopted on this day from her new family who saw her a few weeks ago at another adoption event! I was told that Duma will be going to live with another Greyhound named Doc!

Meet Luna:

Luna is a 1 year old Shepard mix who was pulled off of death row. She’s a spunky little girl with a huge heart and a great licker! She is being fostered through Muttley Crue.

Meet Josie:

Josie is a 1 year old Pitbull Mix. She is one beautiful girl and she gets along great with other dogs. She is also being fostered through Muttley Crue.

Muttley Crue is a rescue organization that one of my friends founded. It is my hopes this year to team up with her on some other events that she has going on this summer and fall and offer my time at fund raisers, and profile some of her efforts in rescuing dogs.

Meet Charlie:

Charlie is a 9 year old Golden Retriever that was being fostered through Golden Treasures Rescues. Charlie’s foster Mom adopted him a few weeks ago!

Meet the puppies!

Cosmo’s Buddies had a group of 8 week old puppies up for adoption. There motto is “A home for every pet starts with a place in the heart.”

The first 2 dogs in this post are also available for adoption through Cosmo’s Buddies.

I believe that as a blogger and as a pet owner, working alongside with shelters and rescue organizations for the love of dogs is key.

I couldn't agree more. While my personal dogs are rescues, I would never suggest that dogs shouldn't be bred - by reputable breeders. Puppy mills and back yard breeders are a whole different problem, but it seems to me more and more people are growing aware of the issue - because of people like you who take the time to educate them. Thanks for such a great post!

These pictures are beautiful, Jen! Connecting to a photo is often the first step for these dogs to find a home. What you're doing is great.
