Monday Mischief. Pool Mischief!

Like most everyone else in the world we have been experiencing a very hot summer. It really hasn’t been very enjoyable for any of us here. The dogs and the kids spend the day in the air conditioner because it is just so miserable outside.

Usually in the summer I have a kiddie pool set upside for the dogs if I know I am going to be in the backyard for a long period of time, but I haven’t been out there during the day very much this year except at dusk.

This weekend though I had some yard work that I had to get done because I’ve been putting it off all summer. Temps were in the mid 90′s and I knew that Leroy would only come out for a bit and then go back inside to the air conditioner. Sherman however, is a different story. Even though he knew he would be much more comfortable in the house, he has to keep me in his site.

So I filled up the pool for him.

I filled the pool about half way and then went about my yard work.

Sherman was perfectly content sitting in the pool and he just rotated his little butt around.

Then I noticed him looking at the water in the pool with a puzzled expression on his face. I thought maybe a bug was floating in the water or something but when I got closer I noticed that almost all the water was gone and his paws were barely submerged.

At first I thought maybe his thick coat just soaked up all the water, which would of sucked because that would of meant he was soaked to the bone and I would have to get the dog dryer out to dry him, if not he would maybe be dry by next week.

But upon further investigation I realized that there was a big old hole in the side of the pool. The large puddle of water surrounding the outside of the pool was just an incidental finding.

My pool sprung a leak this summer too but just a teeny tiny hole so mom had to buy me a new one. The old one cost $5 and lasted almost 5 summers so it was time I guess!

LOL so I guess the pool caused the mischief! We don’t have one of those pools because it would probably last about a minute before the brown dawgs killed it.

My dogs agree…It’s way too hot to be outside! Those little wading pools don’t work for them (despite being short-legged corgis!) as my guys just will NOT sit or lie down in water! I’ve tried to teach them and they just don’t get it. They are sure I am trying to drown them! But give them a full size human pool and they will dive in! Go figure……

That pool looks really refreshing! That’s funny that you thought he was a doggy sponge – glad it was just a hole though! Did he swallow little Laura Ingalls and all that’s sticking out are her bonnet strings?? That drool is just something else. I am fascinated and grossed out at the same time! ;)

Aww! We’ve tried both kinds of inflatable pools with Moses – the hard plastic ones and the inflatable ones. Both have a short life span, inevitably getting cracked/punctured in a week or two. We haven’t bothered getting another one for this summer, but if the heat keeps up, it’ll be something to consider.

Oh poor Sherman! My boy, Flash, needs to be near me at all times. Unless we’re out in the heat. My girl, Patches, likes the hot sun on her black fur in summer, since the house is so cold (long story). But neither of them are allowed near the wading pool. Our duck attacks anyone who tries to get in.
