Monday Mischief-Harness Mischief

Our brand new harness for the cart arrived last Thursday!

I was so excited when I saw the package sitting at my door when I came home from work that I found it hard to contain myself. As I rushed up the stairs I was thinking to myself that I couldn’t believe the manufacturer fit the whole harness in this tiny little package.

This is a harness for a 145 pound dog to pull a cart. How in the world do they fit it in an envelope?

Well they fold it up and shove it in the envelope and then when someone like me gets it and opens it up, they get very confused, very fast.

Obviously, I’m not a harness person, so when I took the harness out of the bag and saw this:

I got a little concerned. There’s way too much stuff going on there and there was no arrows on the harness telling me which way was up and which strap went were.

Of course there were directions.

But that was like me reading Chinese.

Cinches? Cinch loops? Adjustable straps. D-ring?

Whoa!

Every voice in my head told me to just wait until my husband came home before I tried to harness up one of the dogs. If I didn’t wait I was bound to create a huge mess.

I didn’t wait.

I tried it on Sherman and it didn’t go well.

2 hours later my husband came home, exhausted from work, and just looked at me struggling with Sherman and the harness and shook his head.

“It’s upside down and backwards.” he said.

By this time I was at my wits end and I took the harness off and handed it to my husband.

He did better than I did with it but it still wasn’t right.

We gave up for the night and tried again the following day.

This time we used Leroy and after struggling for awhile we finally got it right.

Or at least I think it’s right. I was too mentally exhausted to actually hook him up to the cart and see if it works. That will come next week.

In other mischief news, I have to make a little bit of a public service announcement.

It has come to my attention that I have been deemed spam by some of your blogs. I noticed it a few weeks when I was leaving comments on some of my favorite wordpress blogs. I would leave a comment and then it wouldn’t show up. I would go back and check later and still nothing.

After stalking my good blogging friend Caren from Dakota’s Den, she let me know the other day that she found my comments in her blog’s spam folder. So I am just letting some of you know that if you haven’t seen me commenting on your blog in the last few weeks, I have been, they are just in your spam folder! It seems like this happening more so on wordpress and typepad blogs and not blogger blogs.

One more thing! Thanks to everyone who joined in on the Human Shaming Blog Hop! That was a blast and everyone’s posts had me laughing so hard all day!

O.k. That’s it! That’s my PSA! Now onto the Mischief Hop!

Woof! Woof! Interesting harness. I also wear one that mom made based on the “premier” where the hook is underneath. Can’t wait to see how the newfies react on it. Yes we did see just 1 comment on spam. Happy MM. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

I have been finding you in spam for weeks. Then I tell it you are not spam. It doesn’t believe me. Never fear, I’ll keep fishing you out. :)

That harness looks all kind of crazy. I give you and your hubby credit for figuring that out. I can’t wait to see it paired with the cart.

There are some blogs that comment that are never automatically approved on my site and I don’t know why so I have to manually approve but that is computer life – almost as complicated as a dog harness! LOL!

What the duck? I didn’t have time to read your post so I just skimmed the pics, but is that some kind of… um, adult, uh… Has your Mom been reading 50 Shades of Grey?

Yes. You are spam to me too. I always approve your comments and indicate they are not spam, but for some reason, time after time they still go into my spam folder. I just review to make sure before emptying it now. I kept meaning to tell you (Sorry!)

Loved the whole thing with the harness. OMG! I NEVER could have figured that out! It’s one of the reasons I hate harnesses. I can never figure them out. Clearly, I do not have a mechanically-inclined mind. I hope the harness works when you finally hok up the cart!

Just wanted to hop on by and see how y’all are doin’. Hope y’all have a fantastic and safe week!

What’s with the spam thingy? I’ve learned to always check my spam ’cause comments I want sometimes do go there!

    Y’all come by now,

It sounds like you had quite the time with the harness. Like you I wouldn’t have waited either and there’s nothing worse than when you have to admit defeat! I’m glad you finally got it figured out though. I can’t wait to see the cart hooked up. :)

    Hey Jen,

Good job on the harness – eventually!! Tee Hee – It looks good on him whether it’s correct or not?

With the spam, that happens to me sometimes and I contact Akismet and tell them I’m one of the good guys and I think they sprinkle fairy dust on my comments and then I’m usually ok for a while!! :) Good luck,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

I’m glad to know there is someone else to dives in and doesn’t like to read directions. Life is more fun that way even if it does cause problems.

Oh yeah, that would be me and my hubby too. I am constantly putting Delilah’s harness on wrong. :-)

As for the spam, I’ve had the same problem, sometimes there is no contact information on the blog to let that person know. I check my spam folder pretty regularly just to be sure. :-)

  • Rebelwerewolf says:

Haha, my spouse is like you with dog equipment. And I don’t make it easy because we alternate between using a Gentle Leader head collar, an Easy Walk harness, and a seat belt harness for the car. My spouse has mastered the Gentle Leader, but any time we use the other equipment, I have to put it on, or it ends up backwards / upside down / inside out, you name it!

P.S. Found you through “A Day in the Life of a Goose”.

How many peoples DOES it take to get one large dog into one harness? Boy that thing looks confusing. I’m sure it will be worth it, once you get to pull stuff for fun.

P.S. I found a comment of yours in my spam box the other day too, and my blog is a self hosted WordPress blog, if that helps any.

Your taking me back in time! My Grandfather had 2 gorgeous Great Pyrenees that he trained to pull a sled/cart. Every Christmas Day he hooked up the dogs and let the children in the neighbourhood go for a little ride.

Now I have trouble with a regular harness but your new one looks complicated indeed! Can’t wait for your carting photos.

My heart goes out to you! I am HORRIBLE at figuring those kinds of things out. At least you have your husband to help…mine is even worse than me!

Wow! That looks like a confusing harness!! Glad you finally figured it out :) I was having the same problem commenting a few months ago and I emailed “Akismet” and asked them if I was somehow on a list, they took care of it for me!

That human shaming WAS fun! I laughed so hard – I was torn though. I couldn’t decide if the pics or the comments of the pics were funnier! Good times!

I hate regular harnesses – I can’t imagine a contraption like that. I probably would have opened up that envelope, seen that monstrosity and curled up into a ball and had a good cry. You are brave for trying to figure it out on your own!

Sorry, SHE is laughing at you and that harness–having had so many similar experiences. We hope the dogs at least stood still for you, SHE’s usually trying to hold the dog still while following the other directions and wishing SHE had a few more hands.

  • Jackie says:

Wow – what a tangled web to weave. I practically lost a dog at the shelter today because I had just her little basic walking harness on wrong and she wriggled out of it (luckily I caught her in a dead end area!) so I’d be flummoxed by that thing!

The human shaming was indeed fun. Great idea! Thanks for hosting it.

Being on blogger, I don’t think it’s thought you were spam.

I giggled when I saw the title of your post this morning and I’ve been waiting to see what happened all day! Patience is not one of my virtures when it comes to getting new stuff, either. I want it, I want it now, and I want to be able to play with it RIGHT NOW! I’m glad you finally got it worked out!

You were showing up in my spam, too, but I happened to find it and reported you not spam, and I think it’s been fine since then. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been getting hit with TONS of spam in my akismet folder lately and I haven’t been good about weeding through it, but I’ve had several people get caught in it lately. Now I’m trying to watch more closely.

That’s a pretty fancy harness. I don’t think it would work for us because my assistant has the attention span of an ant AND pulling things is really not my thing!

That is going to be some great video! What a tangled mess that harness is. WOW! A sledding harness is all one piece and slips over the head. I can’t imagine trying to get that all figured out on one of the dogs. Leroy is one patient dog!

  • tylersat99 says:

That looked really complicated coming out of the package. I hope it’s on perfect and make it really easy to pull the cart. BTW your last attempt at carting with Sherman laying down reminded me if Mica. Lexie is up for anything, but Mica will just lay down lol. We have a used harness from a friend who has done carting for years. I have not figured it out yet at all, so congrats. Hope you have fun :)

  • Colby says:

I love getting packages for my pups, but that harness looks super confusing and the directions even more confusing. Can’t they make something that’s a little easier to put on your dogs. I can’t wait to see Leroy and Sherman wearing it while pulling the cart. Hopefully it gets easier to put on the dogs.

    Happy MM!

Haha – not sure I could figure that harness out either! I sometimes get it messed up just trying to put the hiking backpack on Alma.
For carting Moses, there’s a lady in a nearby small town who makes custom leather harnesses and we had her make us one. And it is much less complicated than those siwash harnesses!
