The Dumbest Pet Product Of The Year

I admit that the title of this post is not very nice but my intention was to draw you in to read this post and if you are reading this, then I guess it worked.

There’s a lot of dumb pet products that make it out to the market these days. If someone can think it, then someone can market it and unfortunately someone will eventually buy it.

My job here is to alert you to a new pet product that hit the internet the other day called the “Slobber Stopper.”

Looks like an inviting product to put on your dog doesn’t it?

The technical description is “a dog mouth diaper, because the cloth diaper material forms around the mouth of the dog soaking up all the saliva and drool,  before it goes flying across the room or gets wiped off on your clothes.”

The Original Dog Slobber Stopper “All about how to stop your dog from drooling and slobbering. Stop dog drool FOREVER.”

WHAAAAAAAAAT?

How about if you don’t like slobber than you don’t get a dog that slobbers.

How about that Mr. Slobber Stopper?

Mr. Slobber Stopper has this to say: “My idea is that many more families will want to buy Newfoundland dogs for their family if they have a tool to stop the terrible drool and slobber.  I think this product can increase the sales of Newfoundland puppies by 50% if they get a dog slobber stopper included with their purchase of a Newfoundland puppy”

How about we don’t want the sale of Newfoundland puppies to increase to ignorant people who think a “tool” can stop drool and slobber?

Newfies are meant to slobber!

How about that Mr. Slobber Stopper?

Not to mention that this product is not safe for obvious reasons:

1. Newfies need to pant or they will overheat and die. This product limits how wide the dog can open its mouth.

2. You are keeping the slobber in, next to the skin which is a breeding ground for bacteria.

3. You’re smashing the dogs eyes which could lead to eye issues and discomfort.

4. What if your dog needs to defend himself and is wearing this?

Well, Mr. Slobber Stopper claims that the dog won’t even know that he has this contraption on after a few minutes of wearing it and that he can eat, drink, pant and be normal.

Yeah, right. Because every Newfie wants to wear a diaper on its head and be happy about it.

And Mr. Slobber Stopper says that this is perfect for show dogs.

Because I want him to have bed head right before he goes into the ring?

How about I just bring a towel with me to the ring?

Mr. Slobber Stopper also has no evidence that this product is safe either and when I asked my vet about it she said ” No way.”

I wonder what Mr. Slobber Stoppers vet has to say about it. He has yet to provide proof that it is vet approved.

And this product isn’t geared towards just Newfoundlands, it’s also meant for Boxers, Basset Hounds, Bloodhounds, Bullmastiffs, Clumber Spaniels, Dogue De Bordeauxs  Great Danes, Great Pyrenees, Mastiffs, Neapolitan Mastiffs, and Saint Bernards.  It just hasn’t made it’s way towards those breeds yet and hopefully it won’t because hell has no fury like a Newfoundland owner scorned.

After reading his blog a few more things rubbed me the wrong way about this person:

“This dog breed has only one problem that I can see.   Dog slobber and drool that makes my children run away from him when he comes into our home.  His slobber increase’s my wife’s workload by doing 3 times more laundry.”

Huh? I have 2 Newfoundlands and my laundry load increased by maybe 1 more load per week=slobber towels.

“My Newfoundland dog is happier when he comes into the home wearing his dog slobber stopper.  My kids only want to love and hug and play with my, “buddy” Moose dog when he is wearing his dog slobber stopper. When he is not wearing his dog slobber stopper my kids run away from him and my dog moose gets none of the love that he craves.”

Huh? Huh? Huh? and you actually put that statement in writing and are proud of it?

“President George McGovern brought his beloved Newfoundland dog Atticus into the White House.  ”

Huh? I didn’t know there was a President McGovern. If my memory serves me correctly didn’t he lose the election to Nixon?

Mr. Slobber Stopper’s claims, statements and lack of proof that this product is safe for dogs has gone far enough.

We’ve started the battle already with Mr. Slobber Stopper and while he claims that he has sent his product off to the Newfoundland Club of America to be evaluated, I can just about guarantee that the product won’t get past the front door and will not be NCA approved.

The wonderful community of Newfoundland owners would like to put a stop to this product before it goes any further and possibly puts a dog in danger so they have set up a petition to sign to try and cease all activities that would put this product on the market.

What do you think about the Slobber Stopper? Would you buy this product for $70?  Tell me why.

About as sensible as people who buy long-haired breeds of dogs, only to cut them short because they don't want to be bothered with the upkeep of a long coat...DUH!

I think it's a horrible and VILE product and I hope no-one buys it, but you know some dumb f*cking ass will. If you don't like slobber don't get a dog that does. Dumb asses.

Yikes. That looks really uncomfortable. To "stop the slobber" it seems they would have to wear it 24/7. I just got a dog that doesn't slobber :)
