We’re starting the New Year off with a brand spakin new image.
Now I realize that it’s not quite the new year yet but I’ve been sitting on this image for the last 2 weeks and I’m ready to show it off.
Ever since I started blogging over 2 years ago I have wanted a fun cartoon image for this blog but I never got around to actually getting out there and finding someone who could create it for me.
Last month, thanks to Kimberly from Keep the Tail Wagging, I found Shawnna from Lovelytocu. Shawnna is a very talented graphic artist based in Yorkshire England and she specializes in “providing ready made clip art graphics for small businesses, hobbyists and crafters… or for people who just love to blog!”
Shawnna also does custom work for people, like me, who are looking for their very own graphic image for their site.
The whole process was quite simple.
1. Pick a girl image that was similar to me. Dark hair, green eyes and totally cute and sassy. (lol) and pick out an outfit.
2. Decide if I wanted both the dogs to look the same or different. This was a decision that took a little bit of thought because to me, Sherman and Leroy look totally different, but to the everyone else they look the same. I decided to go with both dogs looking the same and then Shawnna decided to have one dog with their mouth closed and one open with a little bit of tongue sticking out. This worked well for me.
3. The image of the dogs was the most difficult thing for me. I had the idea that I wanted the dogs to look exactly like the silhouette of a Newfoundland and Shawnna and I went back and forth several times with images. Bigger paws. Broader chest. Bigger head. The head is important. Squarer nose.
Finally I came to the realization that this is a graphic cartoon image. Me and the Newfs are not suppose to really look like ourselves. It’s a fun image.
So finally we decided on this:
Is this exactly what I look like in real life?
Um, no. My hair is not usually that perfect and I’m not that pretty and I don’t wear pink heels, ever. But I do wear pink v-neck shirts and jeans and most of the time I have a smile on my face, and the dogs, while not so drool-less, can often be found right by my side looking up at me.
I personally love the image, it’s a one of the kind image just for us and in the future I may have it modified to have some drool hanging from the mouths of the dogs and maybe…….. have a drool towel hanging out of my pocket.
Along with the new image I was also suppose to roll out a new design for the blog. I have a new Studiopress theme picked out and had plans to switch over to the Genesis framework. At this time a new design just isn’t going to happen. I have neither the patience nor the mind power to take on such a task. The main goal right now is to get back to writing and taking pictures. The new blog design will come in a few months.
So what do you think?

Karen Friesecke says:
I like it! Very fun AND cute
tylersat99 says:
I love it!! It’s really cute and the Newfs look perfect except for no drool. The tongue hanging out is right Mica’s usually hangs out the side and I always have a slobber rag. No matter where we are they are always looking at me!! Great job and I’m sure you look just like the picture
Eva or sometimes Priscilla says:
It’s really cool! I like it too!
Gizmo (@GizmoGeodog) says:

Very cute! She did a great job. And I was wondering where the drool was!

Really adorable!
2 brown dawgs says:

Julie says:
Two thumbs up from me and four paws up from the boys. (hopefully six paws up in the near future!)
Pamela | Something Wagging This Way Comes says:
Very cute. And, if you decide to add drool in the future, I think you’re safest with putting a puddle on the floor. Cartoon style drool could look a little ghostbusters-ish.
BTW, I recently bought the Prose theme for Genesis and am working on setting it up for Hands on Home Buyer. If I survive that, I’ll rework Something Wagging. Let me know if you need someone to commiserate with. I’m not finding it nearly as easy as everyone (the developers) said it would be.
Jen says:
That does not sound very encouraging:) I’ve been staring at the theme that I picked for a few weeks now, it just looks exhausting. I mean I love the theme I just know it’s going to be a pain to move it over because it’s a big change from this one. So, are you able to work on the new theme and still keep your blog running on the other theme or do you have to shut down? I would love to be able to work on it over a period of time rather than have to have it all moved in one day.

It’s cute and fits all three of you! Can’t wait for new look!
jan says:
Very cute. If I weren’t so afraid of any change I would do something different with my blog.
Flea says:
I like it! I also like the idea of drool and a drool rag in your pocket. The image itself is great, I wondered, though, when the site first came up, why the cute header looked squished. The original image is nice, but the header image is squashy. Or is that just on my screen? You and the boys look squatty.
Jen says:
Your right, it is a bit squished because it really doesn’t fit right with the dimensions of this header which is why it was meant to go on a new layout. I re-sized it to fit with this one and I lost some of the resolution. I plan on eventually playing around with it. Good yeye and thanks for telling me!
Nichole says:
I love it — it looks fabulous, chic and fun all at the same time… although I’d love to see the drool rag sticking out of your pocket, ha ha ha!
Vicki says:
Isn’t life like a cartoon? At least your is Jen – lol. Kidding aside, I think its a fun and imaginative idea. It is totally you and your brown newfies. What does Sherman and Leroy think?
Jen says:
LOL, yes my life is cartoon like some of the time! Most of the time when I am writing about our stories I am totally picturing me as a cartoon!
Diana Stoll says:
Very nice!
Misaki says:
Great image!
Kolchak, Felix & Jodi says:
It’s adorable! I love it!!
Kelly says:
I love it Jen….Pasta says you look hot!
Jen says:
LOL! Tell Pasta I’ll do my best to look like for bowling Saturday!
sprinkles says:
I love it! I might just have to check your blogger friend out and get a cartoon design of my own one of these days. Probably not anytime soon though, since I have no $.
Hope you had a very Merry Christmas!
Elizabeth says:
Very nice graphics! Blog makeovers are pretty fun aren’t they?
Bebe says:
I LOVE IT!!!! I too have always wanted a similar one for my blog…will have to check this girl out!
Jessica @ YouDidWhatWithYourWeiner says:
Great image. It’s always motivating to give our blog a makeover. I have heard a lot about Genesis and will probably switch when I finally get around for a new blog design for us. I will probably to it next year for our third birthday. For now we will stay with the Headway theme.
Jackie Bouchard says:
Super adorable! I love it!
