I’m not a person who likes to make resolutions. I’ve made them in the past and year after year I was just a big failure at them. No matter what I tried I just couldn’t stick to the resolutions so I started making goals, that didn’t work very well for me either, so this year I’m going to try for hope.
Hopes for 2013. Things that I hope to accomplish. No pressure needed.
In 2012 I didn’t really have any hopes. Make it through a year without any hardships was about all I had in mind. Well we made it to about the 350th day of the year and then the bottom fell out. We were close, and to be honest it was quite a boring year, which, depending on the way you look at it is a good thing, but I wonder that if I would of had higher hopes for the year, might it of been just as good?
That’s why this year I have several hopes for 2013 and the hopes are broken down in categories.
Family: For my family I have hopes that we will lead a healthier lifestyle this year. At the age of 37 my husband and I suffer with more health concerns than our parents. It all comes down to the way we have chosen to live our lives up until this point and we are ready to make a change. We hope to make healthier choices by eating better, exercising more, sleeping better and keeping the stress to a minimal. The kids are also going to join us in living a healthier lifestyle and will continue participating in a variety of sports. Bobby will spend most of his time with travel baseball of which starts next week. He is doing awesome in school and was on the merit roll for the first grading period and education will continue to be the most important thing for him. Gracie will be trying her hand at gymnastics this year and is also dying to try out soccer. She continues to excel in school and I have no doubt that will keep this pace going!
Sherman: Sherman’s hopes for this year are on hold for right now until we figure out his health issues, of which I promise I will talk about later this week or next week depending on my state of mind and as soon as I learn more information. It’s all orthopedic issues that we are dealing with, but due to the holidays I just haven’t had all my questions answered by the vet yet and I don’t want to jump the gun.
Leroy: There are lots of hopes for Leroy this year but we will take them one at a time. We will continue to work on our draft work and we may also try water rescue with him, but that is yet to be determined. My hopes are that we also will continue to show him here and there throughout the Spring and Summer, but I will be the one showing him which means that we have a lot of practice to do. I mean we as in me, because I am the one who has issues in the ring. It is my hopes that one day I will write a blog post that starts off with, “Today Leroy and I hit the show ring and I did great!”
Gibby: Well this cute little pig will continue to challenge my mind with creative ideas. He really has become a big part of our family and his with his spunky little attitude he fits right in and will continue to be featured on the blog as long as his owner lets me.
Plunger: Plunger hasn’t made many appearances on the blog and it will probably remain that way as he is a grouchy old fella. At 14 his health continues to decline but we are doing what we can to keep him comfortable. I don’t like to admit it but I think his time with us may be limited.
The Blog: Again, I have high hopes for the blog this year. I’ve already mentioned that I will eventually be switching over to a different theme and framework and the reason for that is that I just feel that we have outgrown this one and need one that allows us to have more categories where I can break things down. I really would like to have more posts that talk about pet health and for the beginning of the year I have a feeling that there will be a lot of talk about joints, ligaments and alternative medicine. Yes, I am going to ask you to join me on this journey, but don’t worry I’ll still have plenty of pictures and ramblings! Promise!
You: I have hopes for you this year that you will continue this journey with us and that you will have the best year possible whether it be fulfilling your resolutions, achieving your goals, or watching your hopes turn into reality.
May 2013 be good to all of you!
Happy New Year!
XOXO Jenny Jugs

From one Newf owner to another I can only wish you the best and healthiest year for Sherman, Leroy, all the rest of your crew. And that all good things come to you in 2013!!

Same to you Lexie, Mica, Sherrie and John!!!
Jana Rade says:
I agree with you. New Year’s Resolutions are just something to feel bad about later. I believe that if one wants to do something, they’re just gonna do it. If they have to wait for an “excuse” to resolve to doing something, it’s not going to happen.
My main hope for 2013? Finding peace. No idea how to do it; been trying for years. Second main hope? That Jasmine can spend 2013 without any illnesses, injuries or other medical disasters. God knows she’s had enough of all of those.
Amen.
Jen says:
I hope for the same Jasmine, she is such a strong girl! I have been referring back to a lot of your posts lately, they have been so helpful to me!
Kenzo says:
Great new year’s resolution, yet I understand your reluctance. I hope all your wishes for the new year come through. Have a Happy New Year!
Jen says:
Thank you Kenzo and same to you!
Emma says:
Mom and I wish you a wonderful 2013. We did not know of Plunger until today – a 14 yr old Newf if a real blessing! He may be old and grumpy but we hope he keeps on kickin’ for a long time! Happy New Year!
Jen says:
Thank you Emma! Plunger is actually our 14 year old Beagle. I haven’t featured him here in quite awhile because he doesn’t do much other than eat and sleep:)
Melf says:
Beautiful post Jen. I have a lot if hopes too, including eating healthier and more exercise, although most nights I do try to walks the dogs at least 30 minutes and if I get home early, an hour. It’s just been so darn cold this year!!!
I admire your decision to change your blog up this year. I am comsidering doing the same. I have a few things I need to change anyways, so now is as good a time as any.
Hoping for the best for Sherman and wishing you and your family a great 2013!
Jen says:
Maybe we should change our blogs at the same time so we can cry together:)
Melf says:
My other goal for 2013? Cosmetic surgery to make my fingers teeny tiny so I can have less typos when typing on my iPhone.
Jen says:
LOL:))

Happy New Year!
Love the pictures. I hope you figure out Sherman’s issues. I know too well orthopedic issues are no fun.
As for showing Leroy, do you have any place near by where you can practice showing him? There is a club near us that holds drop in conformation classes. They are an AKC club and also hold agility/obedience classes and shows. They set up a show ring and the instructor offers constructive criticism/tips on how to show the dog better. When my hubby was trying to finish Thunder, (a big dog over standard), he attended several classes and the instructor was instrumental in helping him to show Thunder so he could get his CH. It helped with the nerves since it was low key. We plan to start Freighter on these classes when we can and Storm may go to a few since she is still working on her show title. Since it is drop in, the cost is nominal. Best of luck with the showing. Hope we run into you again at a show.
Jen says:
Yes. We do have a place that offers confirmation classes. Leroy and I have been there a few times in the past and we plan to hit them again in the Spring because the close down for a month or so during the winter. Leroy does not like running on the mats in the ring, he does awesome at outdoor shows, but the mats are an issue. I have my issues to as I get flustered very easily in the ring and this is something I really need to get over. I honestly think we could make an awesome team together if we could get it together!

One of my favorite teachers used to say if you don’t have a goal, you won’t know when you get there. Your sound worthy and attainable. Looking forward to more adventures with your big guys in the coming year.
Jen says:
Those are very smart words and so true!
Vicki says:
Love the idea of more talk on canine health issues Jen! Both of our newfies are older. Buddy is 9 and Bea will be 8 in February. I want to be able to have them here with us for as long as possible. To that end I will be continually searching for holistic answers to helping them lead healthy lives.
May you and your family have a splendid new year in 2013. Here is to all of our hopes and dreams..may we be allowed to work at them and strive to make even one a reality.
God Bless,
Vicki
Jen says:
Thanks Vicki. I’ve always wanted to learn more about alternative medicine and now is my chance. I want to keep Sherman and Leroy around for as long as I can also!
Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support all the time!

Beautiful post…I like the idea of ‘hopes’ the way I liked Sugar’s post about ‘directions’…Both are more attainable & realistic than the rigid ‘resolutions’ Resolutions don’t take “life” into account…Beat wishes for 2013 & fingers crossed for Sherman
Jen says:
Sugars post on direction was perfect!
Thank you for the best wished and Happy New Year!

Traveling baseball? Isn’t it really cold for that, or do they play indoors?
I think all of your hopes sound very achievable! Here’s hoping that 2013 will be even better than 2012. I love seeing what you’ve all been up to every day and I am sure there will be even more fun and entertainment to be had as you go along!

Goals are always good and I think that your goals are quite attainable. Best of luck with Leroy in the show ring! I will be starting Dexter soon, he is considered an adult dog in about a month, so into the show ring we go.

God I love you Jenny Jugs!! What a great, inspiring post.
I know a great Holistic Dr. that might be able to help with Sherman, he was amazing with Delilah. Landau Veterinary.
I hope that all your hopes come true this year.
Oh and that I meet you at Blogpaws or some other prearranged spot.
