Snoutstik. Nose Balm For Dogs

DSC_0779

A dog’s nose is at least a million times more sensitive than our own noses. I mean think about how much your dog’s nose goes through a day. All those wonderful smells it finds, all the mud it finds when digging, all the kisses it seeks out. I mean a dog’s nose gets a work out 24/7  and is one of the most important part of a dog’s body so imagine how painful a dry or irritated dog nose can be.

I love Sherman’s nose. It’s a gorgeous big brown nose and it is one of the most photographed parts of his body but lately it’s being covered in mud and I haven’t been able to see it much until last week when I wiped his nose with a warm washcloth and I noticed the little cracks on his nose.

I was a little bummed to realize that it was actually a dry cracked nose and NOT dried mud, but have no fear because as luck would have it, I had just set up a review through Sweet Relish to do a product review for Snoutstik® by Opie & Dixie and the nose balm was in route to my house.

Snoutstik® was created to help alleviate dry dog noses caused by exposure to the elements, allergies or heredity, and has a  core combination of healing, natural sunscreens, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Jojoba Seed Oil.

Snoutstiks®come in 3 different formulas for your dog:

ROSEMARY FOR SOOTHING INFLAMMATION

A natural disinfectant; soothes and reduces inflammation and treats bacterial and fungal infections.

LAVENDERFOR GENTLE NOSE CARE

A clean, fresh scent and calming, balancing properties; provides ultra-gentle skin care and can be applied to irritated, itchy spots as a healing aid.

PUMPKIN FOR ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE

Used to treat burns and wounds; heals environmentally damaged and sensitive skin; high in Vitamin A (restores healthy skin tissue) and C (antioxidants protect skin from free radicals).

The unique, no-mess Snoutstik®dispenser and silky-smooth formula is said to make it super easy to apply healing moisture to your dog’s dry nose.

I was sent the rosemary formula to try out on Sherman.

While it says that you can dab it on your dogs nose several times a day I chose to apply it on Sherman’s nose 2-3 time daily.

At first Sherman wasn’t to fond of me grabbing his snout and rubbing it on but he quickly just went along with the short process.  It was easy to apply and wasn’t messy. It was like putting some lip balm on your lips except I was putting it on my dogs nose.

The rosemary smell wasn’t too strong and it did not seem to bother Sherman or draw the other dogs over to sniff his nose and most importantly, Sherman did not try to rub or lick it off.

So did I notice a difference in Sherman’s nose?

After 5 days of applying the Snoutstik® on Sherman’s nose 2-3 times daily, I did notice a marked improvement in his dry, cracked nose.

Pros:

Snoutstik is 100% Natural, 100% Vegan, contains no harmful ingredients and is manufactured in the US!

Easy to carry and easy to apply.

Not messy or greasy.

Can be found at most pet supply stores.

Cons:

Make sure not to place this on your counter next to your lip balm, while it did no harm when I accidentally applied it to my lips, the thought of Sherman’s nose stick being spread on my lips was a little yucky.
***Please see a veterinarian if your dog experiences prolonged dryness, scabbing, peeling or bleeding of the nose, as these symptoms could indicate serious illness.
