The PlexiDor Dog Door Install That Didn’t Happen

plexidor

I was so excited when I was contacted to do a review on the PlexiDor dog door a few months ago.

Sherman and Leroy were going to get their very own doggie door.

Super cool.

Neither of the boys has issues going outside through our regular door. They just push it open with their big heads. However, they haven’t quite mastered using the handle to open the back door.

It would perfect during the summer for them! They could come and hang out with us on the back patio and if they wanted to go back inside to cool off, they were free to do so without having to wait for one of us to go inside. Then they could come back outside when they were ready!

And if they let themselves out without asking for permission, they could let themselves back in instead of scratching the heck out of my door!

Let’s do this!

We received the Extra Large PlexiDor wall unit to be installed on the wall of my choice in our home.

I was excited about reviewing the PlexiDor for several other reasons too:

PlexiDor Pet Doors do not require costly vinyl replacement flaps.

The unique saloon style, shatter resistant dual thermo-pane, hardened acrylic panels open and close with a gentle push and automatically close without banging.

Each panel is lined around all four edges with snug fitting, high density, industrial nylon pile weather seal to provide superior draft-control.

When closed, the panels reduce air conditioning and heat loss.

There was only one wall where the door could be installed in my home and when the handymen came to install it, there was a small problem right away. The wall where the door was going to be installed contained a lot of electrical lines that would have to be moved, which really isn’t that big of deal, but then it was determined that the wall was also the main weight bearing wall of the house, which meant a lot of work, a lot of braces and a project that just wasn’t meant to be.

I was bummed about not being able to do the install, but I have to blame myself for not really researching the project out first before I committed to it.

So instead of showing you Sherman and Leroy being absolutely amazing using their new PlexiDor, I’m telling you my wall can’t handle that much amazingness.

PlexiDor did offer to send us out a unit that would fit in our door and I thank them for that! Unfortunately, my door is half glass and that wouldn’t work either!

That is such a bummer! I thought about having the door put in a wall instead of a door, but since we already had a doggy door, then we stuck with the original plan.

I would have loved to see your big dogs making it through. It's hard to imagine that they go that big, but it's cool that they do!

I thought you were going to say that it didn't get installed because it wasn't big enough for Sherman and Leroy :) Bummer your wall couldn't handle the awesomeness.

Woof-hoo, I met the PLexiDoor people at BarkWorld. Unfortunately, we don't have any place to put one either. It's unfortunate it didn't work out for you. I would have loved to see your doggies go through that door! Oz

Ma won't allow me to have one of these amazin' items. She says I can't be trusted to be let out willy nilly in the yardie. (somethin' about deadin' things....pffffft!) Thou, Ma was curious, what about security? Do the doors automatically lock? Yeah, these are things Ma obsesses about! BOL Kisses, Ruby ♥
