Help Save Dogs From Cancer. Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.

Please welcome this guest post from Katie F. on behalf of Morris Animal Foundation.

Help Save Dogs from Cancer!

goldens

Are you surprised to see these Golden Retrievers sitting in this picture instead of two brown Newfoundlands?  These Goldens are here for a very good reason, though, even if Leroy and Sherman are adorable!  Morris Animal Foundation is launching a Golden Retriever Lifetime Study that has the potential to help improve the health of all dogs (including Newfoundlands) by studying Golden Retrievers throughout their lives.  The study will look into what makes a dog more likely to develop cancer, and, if a dog does develop cancer, how to better treat this disease.  Other medical issues that occur in dogs will also be studied.

How can you help?

Morris Animal Foundation is looking for Golden Retrievers to participate in this study, which will include annual exams and questionnaires.

 Qualifications:

  • Golden Retriever owners must be over 18 years old and reside in the contiguous United States in order to participate.
  • Golden Retrievers must be healthy and less than two years old.
  • Golden Retrievers also must have a three-generation pedigree.

For more information about this study, go to the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.

Canine Cancer is one of those topics that no one really wants to talk about, but it’s something that we have to talk about so that we can learn more about it both in humans and pets.

Canine Cancer is a topic close to my heart because I’ve seen so many pets die from this horrible disease. I’ve seen a lot of dogs suffer from cancer and I’ve seen cancer break so many pet owners hearts. My heart has ached more times than I can count from watching friends lose pets to cancer, which is why I wanted to share this guest post with you.

It’s not a typical post that you would find here since it’s geared towards Golden Retrievers, but Newfoundlands and a lot of other breeds are at risk for getting cancer and this study can help improve the health of all dog. My hope are that since this blog has a small amount of readers and most likely each one of those readers knows someone who has or has had a Golden Retriever and those people will know more people and so and and so on. So if each one of you might share this important post on one of your social network sites we can access a whole lot of people and be that much closer to fighting this disease. Thank you 🙂

My Brown Newfies is proud to be working with Morris Animal Foundation to help spread the word about their Golden Retriever Lifetime Study to try and help improve the health of all dogs.

Since we lost one of our golden retrievers to cancer this last summer, this post really means a lot to me and I appreciate it. If we were ever to get another golden that qualified, I would sign them up for this in a heartbeat. This is such a great thing and I think MAF is a wonderful organization. I have shared on Facebook about this before, but I will do it again!

I'm so sorry to hear that Jan. I wish I didn't know so many people who have lost Godens or any other dogs to cancer. Hugs to you and thank you for sharing :)

I mentioned this on my blog a little while back as well. Canine cancer is an important topic for folks to know about, and I think this is such a great study! And Morris is such a great organization (that's why I selected them to donate part of the proceeds from my book to!)
