My Three Blizzard Essentials.

_DSC06682

February seems to be the month when the snow machine gets kicked into full gear here in Ohio. For the last few years we get next to nothing in measurable snow and then as soon as February hits we are instantly buried in at least a foot of snow for the next 2 months.

Our first significant snowfall came last week on Superbowl Sunday and the weather people underestimate the amounts that we were going to get a bit which is why I’m glad I made sure to start stocking up on my “snowed in essentials” Thursday.

I’m a freak when it comes to weather.

Bad weather=me staying home and not going anywhere until it’s safe.

Which means I have to make sure I have all that we need for at least a few days in case we get snowed in.

Besides the basics like milk, toilet paper and Pepsi I also look to have these 3 things:

1. Chocolate. Forget the bread. I need chocolate and lots of it if a snowstorm is coming. Last weekend Gracie and I made chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate and peanut butter Ritz crackers and chocolate cupcakes. We had enough chocolate stuff to last the average family of 4 a week but it lasted us 2 days. Next snowstorm I will buy more chocolate and more things to chocolate.

2. Dog food. One of my biggest fears is running out of dog food and when a snowstorm is approaching my fear quadruples. Sherman’s easy because I get his food at a local pet store and they always have it in stock so I just buy another bag, just in case. With Leroy though I have to rely on a delivery service since no one local carries his prescription food. It kills me to rely on someone else to get me my dog’s food but I deal with Chewy.com who hasn’t let me down once. But what if the weather people and their computerized models are way off and all of Ohio gets snowed in and the delivery people are snowed in and they can’t make their deliveries for weeks? So pending a snowstorm means I double on Leroy’s order, just in case. Example: Last week I had a serious panic attack as I observed Leroy’s dog food status. On Thursday night, around midnight, I placed a panic order at Chewy.com. Saturday morning the Fed Ex truck pulled up and my panic attack disappeared. Chewy.com gets me. They just get me.

3. Wine. Alright. That is what we are going to call it so no one gets in trouble but just between you and me it’s not really wine. It’s something that I normally can’t even smell let alone drink but when modified into something that tastes like apple pie it’s glorious and a little addicting and who needs a fire when your sipping on something that makes your face all nice and warm? I should clarify, we did not make the “wine”, we’re not one of the cool kids, we modified the existing “wine” that we had. Next modification will equal peach. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Don’t make me say more. It was hard enough not to write what I really wanted to write but since I have a history of writing things that come back to haunt me………… we will leave it at this.

That’s all I got.

Who needs real food when you have chocolate? Who needs blankets when you have 2 well fed Newfoundlands? Who needs water when you have “modified wine”?

Your turn.  Share some of your snowstorm essentials and don’t be all ohhhhh…bread, toilet paper, batteries and blankets….give me something good.

p.s. Thanks to everyone who voted for Leroy in the Chewy.com contest! He’s currently sitting in 3rd place. The top 3 photos with the most likes are eligible for the grand prize so if he holds on to that position he’s in! You can vote once per day……sooooooooo you can vote again today if you want :)–>VOTE HERE  Thank you!-Jen

I'm with you, I'd rather set my hair on fire than go out in bad weather where bozo drivers who think driving a SUV makes them invincible (not on ice jerks!). Besides, who needs anything more than wine, chocolate and dog food (not necessarily in that order)? Well ok, maybe coffee and cereal but they aren't necessities. Not really when you have wine and chocolate. ;)

Add hay to your list and yeah, I think you've got all the essentials covered...

LOL I am usually so out of touch I never know a storm is headed our way. It is not necessarily a bad thing since I can't panic buy. I just hope I have a bunch of recently expired soup or canned meat to see us through. :)

No blizzards here, just the odd rainy day. All I need for that is a good book and a good movie! And some chocolate, of course! Voted!
