A few weeks ago I walked into the front room to see the sight above. Both boys laying next to each. Paws touching.
It warmed my heart.
There was a time that I never thought I would see something so sweet but I’m starting to see it more and more as they get older.
I have to say, I’m pretty proud of that.
Sure dogs do this all the time with other dogs that share a living space but these are 2 intact male dogs. In some cases intact male dogs can’t even be in the same house.
6 years ago Sherman and Leroy were trying to bite each other’s heads off. It got so bad and I became so upset and nervous that I thought I would have to find another home for Leroy.
Leroy wasn’t the aggressor but he was the problem and he was 1. His brains hadn’t developed yet but his balls were. I was living with 2 intact male dogs in their prime. It was like having two teenagers in the house.
With a lot of hard work and dedication on everyone’s part we were able to work through it.
They’re not the best of friends, they still squabble.
Leroy’s the little kid that keeps poking and even when you give him a warning he still pokes so one day you know he’s going to get punched in the face.
Sherman’s pretty tolerable but even he has limits and he’ll give Leroy that punch in the face every once in awhile.
He actually punched Leroy this weekend.
It was hot and Leroy was being a jerk.
He had his warnings but he kept pushing so he got what was coming.
By Sherman’s calculations and area of attack I think it was premeditated.
Luckily Leroy came away unscathed. Well…. he didn’t have any wounds on his body but his feelings were pretty hurt.
So much so he didn’t share tile space with Sherman for 24 hours.
