When You Grow Up With Newfies #ShedHappens

This post is sponsored by Swiffer® and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am helping spread the word about Swiffer but My Brown Newfies only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Swiffer is not responsible for the content of this article.

growing up newfies

When I met my first Newfoundland back when I was 5 years old, I was terrified.

It was my aunt’s dog and I would NOT go into her house until she put that ginormous black slobbery beast away.

I might of only been 5 but I was no dummy. A dog that could look me straight in the eye and slobber in my hair was not my cup of apple juice.

Fast forward 30 plus years and that’s my life. Ginormous hairy beasts that slobber.

Not only is it my life…. but it’s also the life of my kids.

Newfies are what they know.

Bobby was 5 when we got Sherman and Gracie was 2.

These are their childhood dogs and I couldn’t be happier with my choice to have them grow up with Newfoundlands.

Sure they come with hair and slobber………and mud and leaves.

Swiffer Effect

But they also come with love, loyalty and devotion.

They are gentle giants that protect my children so I can handle the little mess that comes with that.

Since stray piles of dog hair is one of our biggest obstacles in this house, Swiffer® has always made that job a little easier for me.

It’s called the Swiffer Effect.

The Swiffer Effect is when I use the Swiffer Sweeper to quickly round up that pet hair and other Newfie debris, allowing me to spend more time making memories with the kids and the dogs.

Swiffer offers easy-to-use sweeping, mopping and dusting cleaning tools for virtually every household surface, making cleaning up after the family’s pet quicker and more efficient, so they can spend time on things that really matter:  I’ve been using the Swiffer Effect for 9 years now. I have a 10 year old, a 14 year old and 2 senior Newfs. I don’t have time to worry about how much hair is under my couch. That’s Swiffer’s job.

I don’t believe that pet messes should be an obstacle for those who are thinking about getting a first time pet for the family which is why I’m excited that this year Swiffer and BarkBox are passing the Swiffer Effect onto participating shelters across the U.S. by providing them with 10,000 Welcome Home Kits. #ShedHappens but that’s o.k.!  Swiffer is hear to help!

Swiffer Welcome Home Kit #ShedHappens

The Welcome Home Kit includes the following trademark BarkBox goodies and Swiffer products: Coupon for a free Swiffer Sweeper Starter Kit, Swiffer Sweeper Dry Refill Kit, Swiffer Duster, coupon for a free Febreze product, Bark Toy, Bark Treat, Fresh Chicken Recipe Food Sample and Food Coupon, and a Welcome Home Guide featuring information from child development expert, Dr. Aubrey Fine, on the benefits of a pet for children and info from the Bark folks to make the adoption transition easier for pets. swifferlogo

Swiffer is making a $50,000 total donation to select shelters to support their needs this holiday season. Swiffer is also teaming up with Scott Foley to celebrate Family’s First Pet and the fur-ever friendship that comes with adopting a child’s first pet. New pet owners are invited to share a photo of their new fur-ever family and everything in their Welcome Home Kit box with @Swiffer and @BarkBox to show how they are ready for when #ShedHappens.

I love your perspective. I have never had a Newfie myself, not even sure I have met one actually. But my sister has a pair of Bernese Mountain Dogs and they are the most gentle giants I have ever met.

Even with my two short haired dogs I feel your pain with the fur.

We also use a swiffer to quickly clean up after them. Our linoleum gets so dirty so fast but with the swiffer sweeper and occasional wet jet cleanup we are able to stay on top of it too.

The Swiffer serves multiple purposes in our house. For me - it's a way of cleaning the floor and getting up all that falls, and for the boys- it's a game :) We all couldn't live without it!

Shedding is part of growing up with dogs. It definitely becomes part of your routine. Swiffer is great for that and I'm happy to see they are donating to shelters.

The benefits of having a dog while your kids are growing up are worth the extra mess. Besides teaching them responsibility I know my kids appreciated the unconditional love and acceptance that a dog gives after a day when the humans in their lives may have been a disappointment.
