Slobber String Problems

slobber strings

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, I changed my kitchen around over the weekend.

The change moved a big piece of furniture to another wall leaving the wall that it was on completely exposed.

On that exposed wall was an exposed outlet.

I don’t know why it was exposed. It’s been hidden behind a cabinet for 15 years and I can’t get my brain to recall why we wouldn’t but put a cover on it.

Out of sight out of mind is what I’m going with.

Not only did moving that cabinet leave an exposed outlet but it also left a floor vent fully exposed.

A fully exposed floor vent in the summer is like winning the lottery for Sherman and Leroy.

This particular floor vent space is usually Leroy’s. For the past 8 years he’s jammed his head and front paws under the cabinet to suck in as much cool air as he can.

As soon as he realized that his massive brown body could plop down on top of the vent, he was one happy giant.

The problem was that he realized this minutes after the cabinet was moved which means his face was right where the exposed outlet was. Of course this made us nervous because it’s Leroy and his face was turned towards the wall.

My husband and I both imagined him licking it and getting electrocuted.

Then the thought of “what if he has a slobber string hanging from his mouth and it somehow connects to the outlet and gets stuck in there and he’s continuing being electrocuted until the slobber string breaks” popped into my head.

So of course one of us stood guard while the other frantically ran around the house looking for that outlet cover we just saw somewhere a few days. We came up short so my husband had to run to the store and get one.

The outlet is now safely covered and even has those childproof plugs in place just in case.

I wonder if we could market those as slobber string electrical protectors?

I wonder if anyone else worries about these things?

I wonder……..

Never worry much about outlets around here, but we don't really slobber either. We do worry about vents without covers and someone falling in.

Well, since my girls don't slobber, I probably would not have thought about it in quite that way. But I still would have worried about them getting electrocuted.

Callie used to lay across the front of our floor vents - which are actually wall vents at floor level - especially in the summer when the a/c was on. Our heating/ad system works so much better now; but I'd gladly sacrifice it to have Callie still with us and healthy.

Yes. We all sweat while the dogs cover the vents. As long as they are nice cool that's what matters!

I was super happy about the Cavs winning Espys until I saw this and wish I could award you dog parents of the year!! I'm quite curious if anyone actually googled "dog drool electrocution?! ???

That was awesome when they won! Woo-hoo!

I would be interested in the same. I do that Leroy got zapped when he was a puppy when he decided to chew on the fridge cord. That's when I knew he was going to be my problem dog.

A dog mom's mind just works that way - anticipating the catastrophic here our fur-kids are concerned. It's just the way we're wired. With my luck I'd be out in the middle of the night looking for a store open at midnight. ;)

Yes I worry about things like that all the time. If somethings going to happen it's going to happen to Moses. My 20 year old son is always accusing me of being more overprotective of our two Newfies than I was of him when he was little!

Lol. My kids accuse me of the same thing and it sounds like Leroy has Moses luck!
