There’s A Mouse In The House

DSC0032-1024x6851

We had a mouse in the house last week.

Actually we had 2, so we had mice.

It’s the first time that I’ve ever seen a mouse in our house in the 17 years that we’ve lived here.

I’m not scared of rodents. I don’t particularly like all of them, but I can deal with them.

Unlike spiders. I can’t deal with those.

My husband can’t,  he CAN NOT deal with rodents.

So when we saw a little mouse run along the baseboard in the kitchen the other day he had a mini man panic attack.

At first both of us just stared as the little creature ran through the kitchen and down the basement stair. Then our mouths dropped.

I admit that I felt bad for my husband as he face went from a nice tan color to ghost white.

“I got it.” I told him as a I reached for a Tupperware container for an easy catch and release.

I headed downstairs closing the door behind me.

A few minutes later I came back upstairs and broke the news to him that I couldn’t find it.

He breathed in and he breathed out.

“Well the dogs are both down there. Maybe they’ll catch him.” he said.

I chuckled.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen Honey.” I said.

Sherman’s not a big fan of rodents but I don’t think his rodent radar would even pick up this little guy and Leroy, well Leroy wouldn’t hurt a fly. Leroy would actually invite the rodent up on his back for a ride or a snuggle OR try to entice it into a game of tug of war.

So the husband reluctantly headed downstairs to see if he could find the mouse.

Eventually we found it and an hour later found his little partner.

Both were safely caught and released into the woods with no help from the boys.

So how about you? Do you think your dog would catch a mouse?

Our first dog was a terrier mix and she once spent a whole day staring at the stove waiting for a chipmunk to come out (which the cat had brought in through his cat door). We finally moved the stove, Shelby pounced on the chipmunk as it ran out, killed it, and that was the end of it. She then walked away. Poor chipmunk, but it was kind of funny how after hours of waiting it was over with that quickly for her. The current crew, I'm not sure, but I think the mice would be wise not to put it to the test. :)

I have a mouse that is living under my shed outside. When I first saw it I panicked that it could give something to Poppy as it was running about in her run with her but once I got over that I gave her a piece of apple which she took from me and I decided to name her Buttercup (see a flower theme) not seen her since so I do hope she is ok

I'm totally with your husband on this one. When my cat caught two mice a couple years ago, I curled up in the fetal position in my spare room (as far away from the carcass as I could get) and hyperventilated and called my mom and sobbed--and then I realized that if I didn't take care of it, nobody else was around to do it, either. Barley has also caught a mouse while we were out walking once--luckily, I screamed and she dropped it and we hurried away.

Well the cat I don't know, if I see a spider or other bug I point it out to Minx to go get and she couldn't care less. Mica's not going to get up for just a mouse. Aspen I know would go after it till he caught it or it gave up ;)

Pierre would LOVE to have a mouse to chase. I, on the other hand, side with your husband!
