The 5 Best Big Dog Friendly Hotel Chains

With a rise of people traveling with pets over the last few years, more and more hotel chains are changing their hotel policies to allow pets to stay in their establishments. unfortunately, as I learned on my recent travels with Leroy, often big dogs do not fall into their pet-friendly policy.

In most cases, dogs over 50 pounds just aren’t allowed.

So more people don’t mistakenly take pet-friendly as pet-friendly to pets of all sizes, here’s a list of hotel chains that are known to be big dog-friendly, and in big dog, we’re referring to dogs over 100 pounds.

It’s important to note that while these hotels do claim to be big dog-friendly, always be safe and call ahead to verify as policies and ordinances may vary from state to state.

Red Roof Inn Plus.

Pets stay free at most Red Inn Plus Locations, no size or breed restrictions apply.

There’s no hidden pet fee and no cleaning charge. This where Leroy and I stayed on our trip to Myrtle Beach.

The staff was friendly and no questions were asked when we checked in and checked out.  They even have a Facebook page, RedRoofLuvsPets, to connect with the animal lover community (and their pets!). Bring your pet on your summer adventure and save 10% Off your next stay at Red Roof Inn with VP code 604673. Pets stay free at Red Roof Inn.

LaQuinta

Allows up to 2 domestic pets to stay in one room.

You’ll need to sign a Pet Policy Agreement, and then you and your pet can make yourselves at home. No fees or deposits are required. Many people from our Facebook Page have said that they’ve stayed there with no problems.

Motel 6

Service animals and well-behaved pets are welcome at no additional charge.

They are permitted unless they pose a health, safety risk or are prohibited by law. Pet limit of 2 pets per room.

Per their site, “Animals that pose a health or safety risk may not remain on-site and include those that, in our managers’ discretion, are too numerous for any one room, cause damage to our property or that of other guests, are too disruptive, are not properly attended, or demonstrate undue aggression.”

Extended Stay America

You may house up to two pets in each guest room. A $25 (+ tax) cleaning fee per day, per pet is charged and is non-refundable (not to exceed $150 + tax per pet), payable the first night of your stay.

According to their pet policy, weight, size, and breed restrictions may apply in certain areas. A few readers have said they stayed here with big dogs without issues but make sure to call ahead to verify.

Kimpton Hotels

Pet-friendly to cats and dogs of all sizes and breeds at no extra charge. It says on their site “we invite you to bring your furry, feathery or scaly family member — no matter their size, weight, or breed, all at no extra charge. If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.”

They even offer plush pet-bed lovers in your guest room, food, water bowls and mats AND pets are welcome at their nightly wine reception.

Once again, it’s important to call ahead and check with hotels before you hit the road since policies may vary in different areas. We don’t want anyone having to sleep in their car.

Happy travels!

Hi Jen,

If your thinking of coming to New England we have loads of "Pupstar" friendly hotels, beaches, restaurants and trails even here on Nantucket the Boat Basin is ready with treats, toys and water bowls even Luke approved beds! My best friend Marin and I are in Bar Harbor Maine (she had a working trip and I flew up to meet her) have to say Maine is an extremely "gentle giant state" not just newfs but met people from Tennessee with 2 great danes that are renting a place in Kennebunk that was happy to have them. We have had great support from most Holdiay Inn Express as well as Sheratons while traveling with newfs ( I only have Luke now) but prior to him we had two.

Hugs to my favorite brown boys Sherman and Leroy!
