Theories Of Christmas Pictures Gone Wrong

This past weekend I set out to try to get some holiday pictures of the boys.

I always tell you that for every 1 good picture that I get, there are hundreds of bad ones.

This weekend was no exception.

I took over a 150 pictures and got maybe 10 keepers so I thought I’d share some of the bloopers.

My genius idea was to take the artificial tree set up in the basement, outside to the back patio.

In theory, this was a great idea.

In real life, not so much

In my head I was able to pick the tree up in one big lift, smash it through the door and carry it outside.

In reality, as soon as I picked the tree up 3 ornaments went smashing to the ground and the tree was too wide to fit through the door.

I should have stopped there but instead I decided to take all the ornaments off and dismantle the tree.

As soon as put the tree on the patio the boys quickly gathered.

“Now that’s outside we can pee on it!” is exactly what I imagine that their thoughts were.

However I quickly dampened their dreams and gave them a “No peeing on the tree!” warning

The boys were given instructions to sit on either side of the tree.

Sherman obliged but Leroy, as always, had to sit about 1 foot off of his given target.

He’s default showed the broken tree branch which dislodged when I tried to smash it through the door.

Next came the Santa hats.

The dog damn Santa hats.

This year I thought I  was going to be ready for the debacle that Santa hats bring to the Christmas photo table.

I thought I found the perfect way to keep the hats in place long enough for me to take a picture.

Bunny ears under the Santa hat.

My theory was that the ears would stop the hat from sliding forward when the dogs lowered their head every 2 seconds.

It was an o.k. theory but the white band on the side was giving me bad feelings and with enough of a head thrust the boys quickly found out that they could still knock it off easily.

We struggled with the Santa hats for a good 15 minutes.

There may have been a few tantrums thrown by moi also.

After the Santa hat debacle we moved onto some of the fun Christmas props.

My theroy with Christmas props is to grab ’em when I see them and let the boys do the rest.

I was really excited about the Christmas ties that I found at Big Lots for $3. They were the perfect size for a Newfie.

Let me just that there’s always one dog who has to be a drama king.

I promise you that the tie was not choking him.

I could fit 5 of my hands in between his neck and the strap but this is what he gave me:

Sigh.

Next up was the mistletoe and if I may so myself, Leroy wore it quite well.

The problem was that the mistletoe bends. I didn’t realize that until after I was going through the pictures and thought something didn’t look right.

Yeah, it bends in the middle so that the mistletoe is more down in front of the face where it should be instead of sticking straight up into the air like its an antenna.

The antlers were next.

Easy peasy.

Unless of course you’re Sherman who insists on wearing headbands as shades.

The whole photo session took about an hour with set up and clean up. The boys were only involved for about 20 minutes.

They did awesome as usual.

I tested my patience and needed a warm drink afterwards.

And despite all the bad pictures and lack of snow, I did get a few keepers.

Not the pictures that I planned to get, but the pictures that were meant to be. <3

In theory my ideas always seem logical but then you throw in 2 brown bears and all the logic goes out the window. They do what they want, when they want.

I love this so much. Thanks for showing us the behind the scenes photos. My dogs are tiny, but they do what they want when they want. We tried to photograph them yesterday, and it did not go as planned. Hopefully, we got a few decent ones.

Oh my gosh, their expressions in that photo with the two of them in ties....oh, that made me laugh!! Sometimes I wonder why we torture ourselves so, trying to get all these wonderful photos that are mostly only wonderful in our heads. Luke put the kibosh on all my dreams of photos of cute dog elves helping me bake cookies in the kitchen very quickly (post coming tomorrow) this year. Well, at least he gave me a blog post, but no cute photos of dogs in elf hats. :)

Often bloopers are the best. I know I sure love them.

I don't mean to laugh but...it sounds just like one of our photo sessions. It is amazing how many things can go wrong with a few simple pics of our pups!

We are easy as single photos, two is doable, but add in the third and the fun begins. Mom carries around our artificial tree too and it is always a disaster! Love the bunny ears under the hat idea, very good thinking.

I can't even imagine trying to do 3! Your mom is a saint!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who drags the tree around. I actually thought of putting it in the car and taking it to the park but my husband talked me out of that one! Lol!
