Thank You 2017. Welcome 2018

I gave up making resolutions several years ago. For me making resolutions was more like putting myself in a pressure cooker.

I mean, clean out all the closets in the house in one year? Who needs that kind of heat?

So no resolutions here to end the year.

I could go on and tell you that while 2017 had it’s good moments, it was also a struggle. But who doesn’t have a year without struggles? My small, immediate world was much better in 2017 than it was in 2016 and for that I’m thankful. My big world, our world, the one that we all share, was, to keep it quite simple, harsh.

So how do we say goodbye to a year like that?

Maybe with a little thank you to the ones who remain faithfully constant in our crazy world.

Dear Sweet Sherman,

Thank you for a year of soulful eyes. Looking into your sweet eyes kept my heart warm many days. Thank you for your tail wags and happy kisses when I came home from work everyday. Our toughest days together are ahead of us but I promise I will always be there for you. I see the doggie dementia slowly setting in and I promise to guide you through it. As your senses fade, trust me to be your eyes and ears in the new year. It’s the very least that I can do for you after all you’ve done for me. I promise you endless belly rubs and more french fries.

Things to improve on in 2018. This is a tough one because you’re pretty near perfect but if I had to go here I would say that the one thing you might want to consider working on is getting use to your own farts. Your flatulence is becoming increasingly louder and longer and I notice that it wakes you up from a deep sleep. My dear, sweet boy-that noise is coming from your body and it’s totally normal. Flatulence increases as you age and it sneaks out of you. It happens to me sometimes when I cough or sneeze. It’s o.k. Those who love you won’t judge you based on your farts, in fact, some of them are quite impressive.

Dear Roy Roy,

Thank you for keeping my humor intact. While your antics have given me many cases of stress colitis, your goofy nature has brought me out of so many slumps. If it wasn’t for you pestering me all day, there would have been many days that I might not have gotten out of bed. Thank you for dragging me into the woods on so many occasions. I need those walks as much as you do. Leroy, in 2018 don’t  stop pestering me and keep dragging me into the woods. I promise you adventures and more popcorn.

Things to improve on in 2018. I love you for the dog that you are Leroy and all the silly quirks that come along with you. If I have to narrow things down I would say that perhaps maybe you could please come to terms with the fact that we set the clocks back 2 months ago, please take the time to adjust your internal clock this month. I promise that I’m not over sleeping and that I’m not trying to starve you to death, it’s just not time. Please stop eating the dog damn mud! I don’t know how I’ve failed to you catch in the actual act of your mud eating these past few months but the mud caked on your nose and the mud crumbs in the water bowl don’t lie. I want you to stay young but I hope you gain an ounce, just an ounce, of maturity this year.

Thank you for making sure that 2017 had love, laughter and happy memories. If you guys don’t improve on anything in 2018, that’s fine with me. I just want you to stay with me for  2018.

This whole post had me smiling; but OMD! the part of your letter to Sherman about his farts just had me rolling on the floor!! Shadow has been experiencing some nasty farts these last few months, so I can relate really well.

What a great and fun post to end the year! Not sure what we will be doing in 2018....rumor has it Mom might end my blog and just keep Cody's or stop blogging altogether (but then again she says that every year...but this year it is a stronger possibility than ever). Regardless, we will see ya when we see ya! Happy Early New Year! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

Thanks Caren! Wishing you all a very happy new year!

I'm sorry to hear about Dakota's blog but I can relate to what you're saying. There's been many years where I've felt the same about this blog. It's hard work!
