TourmaMat For Pets. A Tourmaline Pet Mat

TourmaMat For Pets. A Tourmaline Pet Mat

As Sherman and Leroy get older I’m always on the lookout for things that can make their senior years as comfortable as possible. I look for products that can provide support to their aging bodies, minimize inflammation, lessen stress in their lives,  keep their brains healthy and their hearts happy all while trying to stay away from harmful side effects.

One product that I’ve been trying to get both the boys to use for years is a pet bed or pet mat. I just want something more comfortable for them to rest their bodies on. Something easier on their joints than the hard floor.

But my efforts over the years have been unsuccessful, until recently, when I actually got 1/2 of my dogs to rest on something more comfortable than laminated wood floors.

Enter in the Tourma®Mat for Pets by FIR Industries. The TourmaMat is more than just a soft pet mat, it’s a therapeutic place for pets to rest because it contains a mineral called Tourmaline.

Tourmaline is a therapeutic mineral that has been used around the world for hundreds of years. The tourmaline particles that are infused into the Tourma®Mat For Pets, are directly bonded to the fibers of the material. The tourmaline absorbs the pet’s body heat and then transmits that energy back into the pet’s body. (It does NOT cause the dog to be hot and I specifically asked this question.)

That energy is converted by the tiny nanometer size tourmaline particles in the pet mat, into the form of far infrared energy. Far infrared saunas have been used historically for their therapeutic value. The tourmaline in Tourma®Mat for Pets also produces negative ions that encourage a more alkaline environment in the pet’s body. Alkalinity promotes healing at a more rapid rate.

Other benefits of negative ions include; scavenging free radicals and reducing inflammation, as well as increasing blood flow and oxygen levels in the bloodstream. Collectively, those benefits will not only encourage accelerated healing, but also a more rapid recovery from physical activities.

The Tourma®Mat For Pets  has been found to significantly calm down many pets during transport, as well as sooth them on a daily basis. Tourmaline has been shown to produce more brain alpha waves. Alpha waves encourage restful sleep. The tourmaline also helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good hormone” and has a calming effect on both pets and on humans.

I’ll be honest, I was hesitant to give the TourmaMat a try and I voiced my concerns about that to the representative.  As I’m sure many of you that have Newfoundlands can relate, getting my dogs to lay on anything plush and cozy, with the exception of Leroy and his couch, is a challenge. Despite my many efforts, neither of them have ever shown interest on lying on a pet mat. They lay on their cooling pads with no problem but as soon as something soft gets thrown into the mix they avoid it like the plague.

I can put a dog bed in any of their favorite spots and they will avoid that spot until I move the bed.

So I had doubts about using this product and writing about it but in the end decided that even if Sherman and Leroy didn’t use it, maybe other dogs would.

So how did Sherman and Leroy really feel about the Tourma®Mat for Pets.

As soon as it arrived I put it in Leroy’s favorite spot and he avoided that spot until I moved it to his next favorite spots. It was a vicious cycle that kept repeating itself.

I gave up on Leroy and moved it to Sherman’s favorite spot and for the first time in 11 years, Sherman didn’t sleep outside my bedroom door.

Then I got sneaky and I put the TourmaMat on the couch where Leroy likes to sleep at night.

Bingo!

Just like that he accepted it.

Since then I’ve caught Leroy using the TourmaMat a few times a day.

I’ve kept it in his favorite spot, other than the couch, for the past 2 weeks and he’s using it. Not all the time but he does seek it out on certain days. Even more so when he’s not feeling well.

I even caught him using it Tuesday night so I grabbed my cell phone and took a quick picture as proof.

As you can see, he had his choice to lay on the cooling pad or the TourmaMat and he chose the TourmaMat.

I’m impressed with that decision.

Even though I personally haven’t noticed any difference in Leroy when using the TourmaMat, the fact that he does use it makes me wonder if he feels something. I wouldn’t count it out as a product that could potentially benefit a lot of other pets.

Sherman is still a work in progress but he kindly posed for a picture.

The Tourma®Mat For Pets can line a pet bed, be placed on the floor of a pet crate or be placed directly onto the floor or in our case, on the couch as needed. It is made of double sided poly-blend lambskin. It is machine washable and comes in 5 different sizes from X-Small to X-Large.

I bet Milo would love this mat, and may be even Bear would once in a while... he is also always hot and loves to sleep on hard floor or even tile in summer. Hopefully Leroy will like it too one day!

Interesting! I have a feeling Shadow would be like Leroy, but who knows? Ducky would probably chew on it - not sure that's a good idea. ?

An interesting video with respect to the affect of negative ions on a dog's body. Now if only it came in human size! ?

They have blankets for humans! The reason why they have the TourmaMat for pets is because people were saying how much their pets used their Tourma blankets! They also have sleeves and scarves!
