A Guest Post – Blogathon

Thank you very much to A.J. from  I Still Want More Puppies for this great guest post!!

I always loved Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. Who didn’t want to be part of a wild rumpus, after all?
That being said, you know where the wild things should not be? In your house or yard.
There are many reasons that keeping a wild animal as a pet is a bad idea… a terrible idea, in fact.
To quote the brilliant book I mentioned above:
“But the wild things cried, ‘Oh please don’t go – we’ll eat you up – we love you so!’ And Max said, ‘No!’”
Take a cue from Max – a constant wild rumpus isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.  Don’t bring the wild things into your home.

Love this A.J.
So fitting
Thank you!!!

The Columbus Zoo is working to preserve the lives of 3 leopards, 2 Celebes macaques, and one young grizzly bear, all that were rescued from the Zanesville animal massacre .  The zoo is taking donations now to help defray the costs for the relocation, care and rehabilitation of these survivors. What is a Celebes Macaque Anyway?

Don’t worry if you don’t know, because I had no idea until I searched about it.

A Celebes Macaque also known as a black ape, is an Old World monkey that lives in the northeast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi as well as on neighboring islands.

It spends more than 60% of its day on the ground searching for food and socializing.
70% of its diet is fruits, but also can be known for eating leaves, seeds, buds, birds, eggs, insects and at times small lizards or frogs.
It’s life expectancy is about 20 years.
Because it is known to destroy crops and fields, it is often hunted as a pest

What Happened in Zanesville, Ohio on October 18, 2011? Blogathon -

My version:

A man who was allowed by Ohio Law, to own over 60 exotics animals, set free them all free and then killed himself.   A small town was overtaken by wild animals.

49 animals were killed.
Including 18 endangered Bengal tigers, 17 lions, 6 black bears, 2 grizzly bears, 3 mountain lions, 2 wolves and a baboon.

Senseless killings because Ohio laws are too lax.

The pictures are not pretty to look at, but they do drive the message home.

A Blogathon is Coming!

This year we are so excited to be joining Dr.V from Pawcurious in her 3rd Blogathon.
Blogathon is a 24 hour fundraiser where a group of bloggers stay awake for 24 hours and make one hour posts in support of their favorite causes of the year.
The posts are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes off the wall, and some are better than others, but they all are for a great cause.

In keeping with some of the recent events that have made headlines here in Ohio in regards to exotic animals I have chosen to support the Columbus Zoo who are working to preserve the lives of three leopards, two Celebes macaques, and one young grizzly bear that were transported to the zoo after the Zanesville incident, where dozens of exotic animals were set free by their owner on October 18, 2011. 49 animals were killed, including 18 Bengal tigers, 17 lions, 6 black bears, a pair of grizzlies, 3 mountain lions, two wolves and a baboon. Only 6 animals survived and the Columbus Zoo needs assistance in defraying the costs for the relocation, care, and rehabilitation for these animals.

So this weekend I will be blogging for them.

Now…. I am not a rock star like Dr.V, so I will most likely not be posting hourly but I will be blogging throughout the weekend with an undisclosed number of  posts, so be ready to see a lot of me!

A few of the things that I have planned,  is of course sharing more information about the Columbus Zoo, more about the Zanesville incident and other similar incidents involving exotic animals here in Ohio.

I will be interviewing Bobby on how he feels about people being able to own exotic animals, so you will get to see a 10 year old’s perspective on this issue.

Oh,  and there will be some talk about zombies too, since the theme for this year is “Blogpocalypse

If you would like to be apart of this Blogathon with me you can by contributing giveaway items, writing a guest post or both! The guest posts can be zombie related, pet related, or even better exotic animal related!
You will just have to let me know ASAP since this is all happening this weekend!
Email me mybrownnewfies@aol.com

The Blogpocalypse starts this Saturday at noon!

Don’t know what a  Celebes macaques is? I will fill you in this weekend!
