A Turtle With A Hook Stuck In It’s Mouth And Help Me Pick Some Pictures

Before I get to the real reason for this post I have to share with you this unique patient that we had at the vets’ yesterday.

I shared it our Facebook page but I know that some of you don’t visit Facebook.

This is a Spiny Soft Shell Turtle

He was brought to us by a local nature and science center who had found him with a hook in his mouth.

He was really cool. He might of been a she but I’m not sure. I’ve never seen a soft shell turtle before and I was amazed at just how soft his shell was.

The vet took x-rays of him to see where exactly the hook was and I thought it would be cool to share the x-ray with you.

As you can see the hook is not in his mouth but further down, possibly in his esophagus. The turtle should be fine, but the vet was not able to remove the hook without surgical intervention, so the turtle was referred to a reptile specialist for further evaluation.

Pretty cool, right?

Alright now onto to the part that I need your help on.

My sister has talked me into entering  some photos into a local county fair’s photography contest and I need your help on which ones to enter.

Of course I am entering into the amateur competition and I will be entering into the following categories:

1. Motion

2. Flowers

3. Animals

4. Black and White

Here’s what I have so far of what I am thinking of entering:

I am all ready to start enjoying my “Leroy proof” backyard and I want to plant my flowers now.

The plan was to wait until all the messy construction stuff was done and then I could started prettying the area up. However, I don’t like to wait so I went to the store this weekend and started buying flowers.

I already knew what I wanted.

I wanted purple petunias.

I always use petunias. They are my favorite and I know that they are not toxic to dogs.  It would be perfectly safe for Leroy to take a bite out of one and that is the whole point of “Leroy proofing” the backyard, to keep Leroy safe.

However, when I was at the store, these flowers caught my eye:

I’m not a flower expert so I had no idea what they were until I looked at the little flower card.
