BlogPaws Exhausted

IMG_0769

I went. I saw. I survived. I came home.

And now I am mentally and physically exhausted.

Don’t get me wrong, I had a blast.

A BLAST.

I connected with so many bloggers that there is just too many to name and I’m afraid if I do try to name them all I might forget someone and then I would feel bad and I don’t like feeling bad.

The bloggers who I got to meet and spend time with know who they are, and the ones who I didn’t get to meet, I am truly bummed and I hope we will have the chance to meet one of these days.

I have so many things to share with you all, but at this moment in time I don’t know where to start. My brain is still in overdrive from all the things I learned.

So I’m going to take a few days off from blogging and catch up on some sleep. Conquer the pile of laundry waiting for me. Hug the kids. Lay on the floor with the dogs. Maybe unpack at some point. Read my notes from the conference, and then get my mind out of overdrive!

Maybe in that order. Maybe not.

Stringy Things Stuck On My Dogs This Spring

DSC_0849

Every Spring we get these stringy things in our yard.

I’m pretty sure that they come from our oak tree and I think they are called catkins, but don’t quote me on that.

What I do know is that they are a BIG mess and they get stuck everywhere on Sherman and Leroy and they clog my drain on the patio.

DSC_0810

If they are stuck on them then they track them through the house on my carpet, in my vents, in my bed and just about anywhere they go.

They kind of gross me out because they remind me of worms.

DSC_0819

I’ve been doing my best to try and get them picked up every time I got outside but we had a pretty windy weekend and they were just literally flying off the tree and the dogs were doing just a fine job sweeping them up with their fur.

It was like their fur was velcro for these stringy things.

DSC_0843

My house is messy enough. I don’t really need stringy things stuck on my dogs that look like worms, to make it even worse.

When All Else Fails, Excavate.

We had another super busy weekend filled with soccer, baseball and a very special occasion with Gracie making her First Communion.

What’s that?

You’d like to see some pictures.

Well o.k., maybe just one.

Or two………………

DSC_0696

That’s Gracie’s cousin and my niece Eileen. They made their First Communion on the same day and then we had a big party to celebrate.

Road Closed

DSC_05391

For the past week our normally very busy street has been closed.

It’s been glorious.

Not only is it extremely quiet and private, but it has also given us an alternate route to walk and explore.

DSC_05431

Or if you’re Sherman, a new place to lay down and relax while your owner takes pictures of you in the middle of the street.

It’s been really nice to walk in the opposite direction of what we normally walk without any type of traffic.

Normally we can only walk North on our street because their isn’t any sidewalks going South, I mean there is sidewalks but they are about 500 feet down from our house on the opposite side of the street and there isn’t a safe way to walk that 500 feet and cross due to the way the terrain is.

Game On. Despite The Weather.

DSC_04891

Spring sports started this weekend for the kids.

Bobby had his first baseball game of the season on Friday.

And Saturday.

And Sunday.

Gracie had her first soccer game on Saturday morning.

DSC_04802

Mother Nature must of missed the memo that Spring sports are now underway and we need temps above fifty and not below forty.

We had a high wind advisory for Bobby’s Friday night game with temps in the forties.

It snowed for Gracie’s soccer game Saturday morning and Bobby’s Sunday morning baseball game was just plain cold.

So basically I spent the whole weekend freezing both my butt cheeks off, all of my fingers and all of my toes.

Mother Nature better get her act together before next weekend because I’m out of hand warmers.

How was your weekend?

The White Towel

We had 4 days of glorious weather last week followed by 6 days of severely depressing rain and cold weather.

Of course the rain equals mud and mud equals happy and dirty Newfies and happy and dirty Newfies makes for a sore back and extra loads of laundry for me.

I’m not complaining about that. It comes with the breed and the lovely state that I live in.

What I am complaining about is white towels and the fact that I even own a white towel.

IMG_0588

I normally use dark towels to wipe the dogs when they are wet and muddy.

It’s the mind game that I play with myself because dark towels don’t show mud as well as light towels so of course if I don’t see it as well, it’s not that bad.

Squeaky Clean

We had a glorious weekend.

The weather was perfect.

A bit chilly on Saturday but Sunday was perfect and I took full advantage of the warm weather and dedicated the day to giving Sherman and Leroy a bath and some grooming time.

DSC_0470

I did things a little different this time.

Instead of giving them a bath in the dark, cold garage I moved all my bathing and grooming stuff to the backyard so that we could actually be outside enjoying the beautiful day.

I have to say, it worked quite well and I don’t know why I have never done it this way before.

I gave Sherman a bath and then toweled dried him and let him hang out the yard while I gave Leroy a bath.

Then after Leroy’s bath I put Sherman up on the table, dried and trimmed for a bit, while Leroy hung out in the yard and air dried a little.

Sherman And The Peep

Just like a lot of people around this time of the year I enjoy a few Peeps to snack on from time to time.

However, I’m the type of person that prefers a semi-stale Peep over a nice fresh Peep. It’s because of this that when I feel the urge to devour a little Peep coming on I take 1-2 Peeps out of the package and let them sit on the counter for a bit to harden up.

Saturday I felt the urge for a Peep creeping up on me so I went about my normal procedure and took 2 Peeps out of their container, set them on the counter and went about my business.

A little while later I came back into the kitchen to check on the progress of my Peep and I saw this:

DSC_0452

Hmmmm. Interesting.

A lonely Peep laying on the floor next to Sherman.

Neither one of them looking at each other or at me.

Just to make sure I didn’t falsely accuse anyone I walked out of the room for a second and them came back in.

DSC_0458

Very interesting.

The Peep waddled over to Sherman’s mouth.

I knew it.

A Trip Down Puppy Lane

Saturday was National Puppy Day, a special day set aside to love and appreciate the joy that puppies bring to our lives. National Puppy Day was founded by Pet Lifestyle Expert, Colleen Paige, a tireless advocate for the rights and well-being of dogs and other animals.

Even though I’m a few days late for National Puppy Day I thought I would take this chance to celebrate Sherman and Leroy’s puppyhood and share a bit about each of them and how they came to join our family.

sherman scan0002

I waited a long time for Sherman and the day we drove to Michigan to pick him up was a very memorable day for me. Forget the fact that we almost died on our drive up there because we drove through a torrential downpour for half of the trip and my life flashed before my eyes several times on the highway, but all that fear went away as soon as we pulled into our destination and the breeder scooped Sherman up and plopped him in my arms.

After almost a year of waiting, I was holding my first little brown newfie and I would of drove through anything to get him.

Sherman did not feel quite the same about me at first.

He didn’t even give me a puppy kiss for quite awhile.

Actually, he wouldn’t even look at me for quite some time.

scan0004

When we headed home I really wanted to just hold Sherman in my arms the whole ride back but he wanted nothing to do with me. We sat in the back seat together but Sherman sat as far away from me as he could and never looked at me. I would try to scoot close to him and he would scoot farther away from me.

I felt bad.

A Bow Tie For Sherman

DSC_0079

We had a super gorgeous weekend with temps reaching 65 degrees on Sunday and my main mission with weather conditions like this was to get the boys up on the grooming table for a much needed grooming session and instead of using a propane heater in the garage to keep me I was able to actually open up the garage door and breathe in some nice fresh air.

DSC_0401

Each grooming session last about 1 1/2 each and Sherman and Leroy were a little less enthusiastic about being groomed in the fresh air than I was, but they were each the big troopers that they are.

Sherman even let me put a little St. Patrick’s Day bow-tie on him that Gracie got him the other day at the store.

DSC_0394

Awe!!!!! Doesn’t he look cute?
