I was reading a fellow bloggers post today about past dogs that they have had and it got me thinking about past dogs that I have had, dogs of my childhood. Then I got to thinking about my kids. Leroy and Sherman are their childhood dogs. I never thought of it this way before. It especially got me thinking about my daughter and Sherman. He is her first dog. Her first companion. They share a special bond with each other. She loves to lay on him and tell him her dreams. He likes to check on her every night when she’s sleeping. She calls him Berman. He finds her when he wants a belly rub.
I took this picture at the beginning of summer of them sharing a very special moment.
It brought tears to my eyes.
The saying comes from an old pedigree ad, that had a newf and a little girl in it. (I hope Pedigree doesn’t mind that I borrowed it)
Up until today I always thought of Sherman as “my” dog, but now I realize that he is hers. He will forever be a part of her childhood. Her first dog. She will never forget him.
