I’ve been hearing a lot about kale lately and it’s awesome healthy benefits for people and the fact that it’s also a nice healthy treat you can share with your dog makes it seem like a win win to me,  so when I saw a blog post over at My Life In Blog Years, I decided to bake some up for my family and the dogs.

I’ve never tried kale before. Heck, I’ve never even seen kale before but Elizabeth’s gorgeous post made me WANT to try it.

So I headed to the grocery store and bought my first kale bunch to make kale chips.

Ingredients:

  • Fresh kale
  • Olive oil

Directions:

  • Wash and dry kale well.
  • Cut or tear kale up into bit sized pieces.
  • Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with olive oil and toss if you desire.

Bake:

  • Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes in preheated oven or until the edges are crispy.
  • Let cool and enjoy!

For humans you can sprinkle the kale chips with a little bit of sea salt.

Both Sherman and Leroy loved the baked kale chips.

I’m pretty impressed with this leafy green and I’ll do my best to keep it in the rotation of healthy foods we eat.

You can read all about the health benefits of kale here and as always, please consult with your veterinarian before adding new foods to your dogs diet. Kale should not be given to pets with certain types of bladder stones or kidney disease, and is recommended to be fed in moderation at first to avoid loose stools.

So how about you? Have you ever tried kale chips? Has your dog ever tried kale chips?

I love kale. I made the same mistake with oversalting it the first time I ever made it. Now I make it without salt. For some reason, it seems kale has its own natural salty flavor.
