I was out dog shopping again the other day and I came across this dog toy that looked like an ice cream cone.
It was cute but the first thing that came to my mind was that it was an intestinal blockage waiting to happen.
That’s the way my mind works when looking at dog toys.
I chalk my thoughts up to all the foreign bodies that I’ve seen removed from the intestines of dogs over the years, mostly labs and golden retrievers, that killed a so called indestructible dog toy.
Granted, all dog toys are meant to be given while under the supervision of their owner, and no dog toy is truly indestructible, but a lot of people are looking for something to occupy their dog while they are busy doing other things so they give them a a cute toy and let them have at it, only to come back hours later and notice that half the toy is gone.
So back to my ice cream cone.
It is made out of rubber and can easily be destroyed by any dog that has teeth.
It could easily be broken in half by one of my dogs and swallowed and the best, or worst part, is that it is scented.
One was chocolate scented and one was strawberry scented.
What? A scented rubber dog toy? What was this dog toy maker thinking?
I will tell you what they were thinking:
Some dog owner is going to think this is the cutest/dumbest but best smelling dog toy that they have ever seen and it would make a great prop for their pictures and it would look cute and smell really good sitting on their desk.
They knew I was out there and they knew I would buy 2 because someone somewhere out there really likes the smell of chocolate rubber.
I did. I bought 2 of them.
For me. Not for the dogs.
I bought them for ME.
Note-Sherman and Leroy were not interested in this toy at all even though it was scented. The only reason they are interested in it with these pictures is because I put peanut butter on it so they would lick it. I would never give them this toy to play with.
2nd note-See what I did there. I put peanut butter on the chocolate scented rubber toy and now it smells like chocolate and peanut butter and sits right next to me on my desk! Genius!
