Newfoundland Dog Grooming Planner

Newfoundland Dog Grooming Planner

I’m not a planning type of person, I do things when the spirit moves me. For instance, I know that my dining room needs to be cleared out but I’m not designating a specific day to it.  If I do that, when that day comes I will do everything I possibly can to avoid cleaning it.

I know that it’ll get done on a day that I decide to it.

That’s just the way I work.

I’m not an organized person either. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to my kitchen. I know exactly where everything is and that’s good enough for me. My linen closest has no rhyme or reason either and I’m sure that makes some of you cringe.

So far in my life there isn’t anything that’s made me want to change that BUT this year I thought maybe I would try something new. Maybe I would try a monthly planner.

So I went out and bought one. I bought a pretty, happy one with nice motivational quotes.

Then I opened it and stared at it.

Then the panic started to set it in.

I wrote things in it like, clean, make and organize.

And then I started sweating.

Those are my failure words. Words that I don’t so well with.

I even wrote them in pretty colors but they still didn’t look good.

So I closed the planner and walked away.

I wasn’t ready to give up on it already but I needed to give myself a few days to think things over.

What could I put plan in my planner that would make me want to look in it every day?

Hmmmmm……….

Then it came to me one day when I was out walking Leroy, dogs.

I can put dogs in it.

Duh.

And that’s when the creative juices started flowing.

Grooming. I’ll make a grooming schedule.

Lord knows that Newfoundland dogs needs a lot of grooming and while I normally do it when the spirit moves me or when the Grinch feet have gotten so bad that I could braid it, having a set a schedule would be awesome sauce. Not to mention that since the boys are older, I don’t put them up on the grooming table and get it all done in one day.

Newfoundland Dog Grooming Planner

This is WEEK 2 of February

So I grabbed my Happy Planner and started planning out a grooming schedule.

Now this planner has 2 calendars and one is more of a memory page so I  decided to use the memory calendar as the dogs calendars and the other one for my personal life, like checking grades for the kids, doctor appointments, etc..

I realize now that I could of bought a planner for the dogs and one for every day life things but let’s not overwhelm me, ok?

Here’s a little idea of what our Newfoundland Dog Grooming Planner is looking like for February.

  • The 1st of the month is nail trimming. I figure that’s the easiest for everyone involved.
  • Every 8th of the month we trim paws. All 4 paws for a total of 8 paws. Tops and bottoms.
  • The 15th of the month we trim ears. 4 ears total.
  • Every 2 weeks we clean ears. I use ear wipes from EarthBath. One of these times will coincide with ear trim day we so we can get the ears done all at the same time.
  • The 28th of the month will dry blow. This is a great way to blow out loose hair and dander between baths.
  • Week 1 will be brush week. This will be the week that I mainly use our pin brush.
  • Week 2 will be comb week. This will be the week that I try and mainly use our comb.
  • Week 3 will be rake week. This will be the week that I try and mainly use the rake.

Now if I wanted to get really technical I could break the days down by what area of their body that I’m going to work on but I don’t think I’m ready to get that crazy yet.

Other things that I have on the dogs area of the calendar is game day, adventure day, clean toys, photo shoots, Leroy’s B12 shots and veterinarian appointments.

Game day will be a day that I devote some time to getting their puzzles out and letting them work their brains for a little while. I’m going to do my best to try and pick the coldest day of the week for that so that I can avoid going outside.

Adventure day will be a trip that we take out to the park or somewhere fun other than home. This will be weather dependent so it may or may not work out every week.

Clean toy day is really just specific to this month because I need to go through and eliminate toys that aren’t played with or toys that are just plain old gross.

Photo shoot day will be the day that we do all the photos for the week that we needs for blog posts and social media. This will help me be a little more organised getting it all done in day rather than doing it several times a week.

I like what our planner is looking like right now and I’m really glad that I decided to devote some of it to grooming. Newfoundlands require a lot of grooming and sometimes I do fall behind in it. Now I have a fun little guide to remind me what to do!

So we want to know if you use a planner! If so, what do you plan? Any tips or ideas you want to share? Do you think planning out a grooming schedule is beneficial?

p.s. We’re using this opportunity to join the 2017 Best Life Pet Planner Project created by Jodi from Kol’s Notes and you can join the fun too just by sharing your planner, ideas, tips and tricks using #BestLifePets.  This challenge is designed for anyone to join! You don’t have to be a blogger!

p.p.s The planner that I have is this one. I got it on sale at Michaels. I’m also using this adorable free printable that Jodi made! The only other thing I bought was gel pens because everyone is raving about them, but you can buy stickers and all kinds of fun stuff to personalize your planner just how you want!

You have said at the beginning of the post that you are not a planning type of person. But I don't think you are that type of person. You have made the best plan of dog grooming that nobody made yet in the world. I think this is the best plan. From today you are my master. But one more thing that I should say that you have made the perfect plan for those persons who are not planning type. Thanks!

Hey, that's a great idea! I'm not a planner, either - like you, I would do everything I could think of to avoid doing something that really needs to be done - but my kitchen, bathroom, linen closet, even my bedroom are all organized the way I like them to be. The dust and dog hair can pile up as long everything is neat and in its place. ?. What I need more than a planner, is a journal. Our dr, dentist, vet, and service appointments are all on a calendar on the front of the fridge. And in my phone's calendar app. That way hubby doesn't have to go through piles of appointment cards to find his appointments.

I love Jodi's stickers! They're adorable! And I love your drawing of a Newfie on your planner page! I'm just not that "artsy" - if I tried drawing a picture of a dog it would probably look more like an ardvark. ?
