EzyDog Summit Backpack Review

DSC_0164

For quite awhile now I have been on the look out for a good all around backpack for the dogs. I wanted something that could be functional for our hikes and also be able to provide Leroy with an additional workout on our shorter walks by carrying a lite load, so when the kind folks at EzyDog contacted me and asked if I would be interested in reviewing one of their many products I jumped at the chance to review the EzyDog Summit Backpack

About the EzyDog Summit BackPack

The Summit Backpack is made to go in many types of environments from hunting dogs hiking on rough trails to service dogs going to the grocery store.  The EzyDog Summit backpack was made to “go with you and your dog whatever the situation might be.”

The Summit backpack incorporates the EzyDog award winning Chest Plate Harness.

The backpacks feature a built-in dog harness to comfortably fit around your dog’s body, yet it’s also very solid and strong so the backpack won’t be easily ripped off or slide off your dog when they sit or run.

The breathable mesh conforms to your dog’s back and features a built-in padded carry handle for quick control.

You can attach a leash to the D-ring to walk your dog or go off-leash by conveniently attaching the leash to the leash caddy, allowing your dog to carry their own leash.

The main compartments feature waterproof zippers, coated ripstop material and reflective the trim. The quick release front messenger style panel offers easy access to items you need to get to and has an ID sleeve on the inside too!

Pros: I loved this backpack for many reasons. First, it actually fit both Leroy and Sherman very well and there was plenty of room after I adjusted it for them for it to fit a dog bigger than them, that is a huge plus in my book.

Second, Leroy was comfortable with this backpack as soon as I put it on him and he had no problem strutting his stuff in it.

Third, it was super easy to get the backpack on and off, which is important to me because I don’t have all day to be hooking up a backpack to my dog. After I had it adjusted to fit him properly it was just one click and it was on. The same thing with taking it off, one click and he could basically just step out of it.

Fourth, the backpack didn’t slide around. It stayed in place whether Leroy was laying down, sitting or running, which I give credit to the nice chest plate harness.

Fifth, this backpack can carry a load. While I didn’t have anything in it when we first tried it out I did experiment a bit with what it could hold and it easily fit a 2qt food bowl in each side with plenty of room left for food and bottled water, plus more room for other goodies.

Cons: The only con I can think of for this backpack is that it only comes in one color. I would love to see it available in red.

My conclusion: A great backpack that is durable, functional, comfortable and easy to use. A great product for most dogs who like to hike!

My current pack is missed a chest piece and it does slide around on Luna. Looks like that isn’t an issue with your pack. Glad to see that it fits them nicely.

Looks good, although I thought mom was there to carry my stuff, not that I would carry anything! It would be a great idea for my sister if she were younger and we like that it stays in place because if it slid around that would be irritating! Nice review!

Great review Jen!! It looks like a real winner to me, my only thought would be if Delilah were carrying food, or if she knew Sampson was carrying food…LOL

I’d be planning some hikes if I owned that backpack!!

Nice review! Leroy looks great in it! Cali has never worn a pack, it would be interesting to see how she handles it!

Chester and Gretel are too small to wear a backpack (at least one with much in it and/or anything useful). The vertical chest strap wouldn’t work for dogs with a prominent breast bone like Dachshunds either. This looks like a good design for most dogs though. We are trying out their harness so we know that their products are made out of very durable materials and are quality made.

Might drag the ground with my guys :-) It would be great to make them carry their own leashes!

Just curious….How did you get yourself and your blog to the point where you are given products to review? Is it readership, page hit stats…?

I believe that it’s a combination of both and because I belong to a few great pet blogging communities such as BlogPaws and DogTime Media. Many companies will look towards these communities when searching for bloggers to review products. Sometimes I know they came from these communities and sometimes I don’t.

Interesting! We have a very, very nice RuffWear backpack for Silas, but it’s a pill to get on. And since he thinks I’m murdering him even putting on the easiest harnesses, you can imagine how well it goes.

Very cool. I’ve always wondered if our dogs would wear one of these. We want to take them hiking this year and something like this would come in handy.

Yep, I agree, you’d look even more cool in red!! :)

Imagine how many treats you can fit in those backpacks, they look great! Maybe you could even pop Gibby in too and bring him on your hikes? Obviously be careful not to get him mixed up with your treats! :)

    Have fun,

    Your pal Snoopy :)
