MUD

Last week I posted about “What Winter Means To Me”.  Now I am going to tell you what pre-winter means to me. You know the time of the year where Mother Nature just can’t make up her mind whether she wants it to be warm or cold. Whether she should make it rain or snow, or maybe a mixture of both with some sleet and hail thrown in just for fun. Sometimes she decides to make it snow one day and then the next day make it 60 degrees. Nice…really nice..Mother Nature…get a clue already.

Pre-winter comes to Cleveland every year, and every year I chose to just forget it happened…until it happens.. again.

Pre-winter with Newfs is a good time.

That’s not true.

It’s a lie.

Pre-winter with Newfs is so NOT a good time.

Pre-winter with  Newfs spells M-U-D.

The ground gets wet and mushy and then you have two 150 pound  dogs walking on that nice mushy grass.
Then you have big paw prints that fill with water, and sometimes you have a dog who likes to go running out of the door and then decide to all of a sudden put the the brakes on and slide across the grass. Nice..really nice Leroy.
Then after day 3 of the rain, snow and sleet you have 2 dogs who want to go running out of the house and you watch from the window as the muds flies through the air, yes mud does fly…it flies far…and it has wings.

Then you have 2 dogs who want to come inside. So you grab the bucket and 6 towels, 3 for each of them.
You dunk each paw in the bucket, changing water for each dog, then you dry..and hope you got most of the mud off of them because they are brown and the mud blends…it blends good.
Then you let them in, realizing you could of done a better job because they are leaving muddy pawprints on the stairs.

Every year it happens.

Would I trade in my Newfies? Never.

Will I bitch and moan about it for the next month. Yes.

In the meantime I have my game plan
I will stock up on floor cleaner to wash the floors about 3 times a day, maybe more.
I will stock up on laundry soap to wash all the loads of towels.
I will get straw to cover up the mud holes
I will not watch them run out the door, because what I don’t know won’t hurt me… or make me cry.
I will buy the 100 count bottle of Motrin instead of the 50 count bottle because my back hurts from dunking and wiping 8 massive paws every 2 hours.

I will pray that the ground freezes soon.

I will not post pictures of mud, because I don’t want to remember it.

There comes a period of time Mom doesn't mop the floors. She sweeps them still, but at some point it just doesn't matter how clean they are, the next time the boys come in, its dirt all over!Sam
