National Pet ID Week!

That’s right there is a week for Pet ID’s too!
April 14th through April 24th is National Pet ID Week!
Awesome!
Time to increase awareness of the need to properly identify your pets using ID tags, microchips, or tattoos.
Each year millions of pets go missing and end up in shelters with no identification. Unfortunately only a small percentage of these pets will ever be reunited with their owners.
If most of these pets would of had proper identification the chance of being reunited would greatly increase.
My choice for pet identification on Sherman and Leroy is microchip.
It’s right there between their shoulder blades. Can you see it? (just kidding)
The reason I don’t use ID tags is because the boys do not wear collars when they are out in the yard and in my experience some pets that were wearing collars when last seen are found without collars on, most likely due to it breaking off at some point in time.
Sherman is microchipped with Avid and Leroy is chipped with Res Q
Although I have not had any problem with either of these companies, I actually really like Home Again.
I like the features that they offer.
-Lost Pet Alert
-24/7 Emergency Hotline-FREE (perfect for Leroy)
-Travel assistance
-Anti-migration feature
I can enroll in their service even though the boys are microchipped.  (I just haven’t yet, because I keep forgetting)

So what is your choice for pet identification?

Thanks for bring awareness to this issue! We do both microchips and collars with tags. The collars with tags are for neighbors etc in case our dogs somehow ever wander off (it's never happened). The chips are for the official agencies. Our Chips are HomeAgain... but only because that's the type that the most scanners at our local shelters can read. Thanks!

I agree, I like Home Again best. I have one pet with an AVID microchip and I'll never get one again simply because maintaining it is a giant pain in the butt. Home Again's website is so easy. My dogs don't wear collars in the house very often, but any time we leave they have boomerang tags that say *I'm Microchipped* on their collars. I love the boomerang plastic tags - I don't *DO* jingling.

We both have Home Again Microchips and also ID tags on our collars. Mommy wants to make sure that we are returned if ever we got away for some reason...she gets very nervous about that!Wags,Maddy and Owen
