Sherman Leroy and Plunger Are NOT Going To Get Lost On Me!

The city where I live has their firework display less then a mile away from our backyard, we could walk there
in 10 minutes.
If we didn’t have huge trees in our backyard we would have a perfect view.
None of the dogs have ever shown any signs of distress with the booming noises of the fireworks.
It is because of this that each year I consider taking one of them with us to the show.
We never go directly to the area where the rest of the city is going,  we always pick a spot away from the crowd, just because I don’t like big crowds, and I hate the traffic jams afterwards.
However, I am always glad the following day that I stuck with my gut instinct and left them at home.
It is on July 5th each year that I walk into work and see fliers about a pet that was lost during the fireworks show. A pet that is normally fine with fireworks but broke free from it’s owner, never to be seen again.
Then as I walk the dogs that night, I see posters plastered up on telephone poles of another pet that was lost due to the fireworks.
It breaks my heart.
So this year I am not even going to consider taking any of them with me.
I will not even let the thought enter into my tiny, overcrowded brain.
I took the pledge and intend to stick by it!
They are NOT going to get lost on me!

Fireworks and dogs are a bad mix. We always stay home, in the house, and mostly SHE stays with us. It's sad when pups get so scared.XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

The humans here so agree with you. We no longer go to fireworks displays, we are getting too old to deal with the crowds and the traffic. We feel better being home with the pups. Thunder has no problems with them. Phantom used to but we are thinking his hearing problems may help with that. Ciara didn't seem to notice them last year but now that she is older and has reacted a bit negatively to thunder storms, we are thinking she might not like them. They are pretty to watch, but we can do that on the tube:)Have a great holiday weekend.Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

I feel very strongly about this myself! We have fireworks here in our little town on July 3 every year, and I make sure the girls are safely ensconced in the basement in comfort before we go down there. Almost every year, I've seen little dogs running loose after the show. And then on the Fourth we go to the city to see the big show, and morons are walking their dogs into the crowd to go down and see the fireworks. As much as I love doing things that involves the girls going along, I will NEVER take them to the fireworks! It's the one thing I wish they'd ban dogs from around here, and ironically, one place where they never are for some reason.

I never realized how much of a problem pets and the Fourth actually had. It makes sense though. What a terrible thing to happen! Great info...thank you for sharing. : )
