Tasty Tuesday-Blueberry Dog Treats

Today we are participating in Tasty Tuesday Blog Hop brought to you by Sugar and Kol
I have a few reasons for wanting to join this hop and I am going to share them with you now:)
1. I use to bake treats for the boys all the time, I haven’t baked any for them in months and I feel bad.
2. I bought new liver flavored treats and Leroy hates them, so instead of going to the pet store to buy a different kind I decided to make him some from scratch which really makes no sense because I still had to go to the store to buy the ingredients.
3. I have $30 worth of blueberries in my freezer that I picked earlier in the summer and no one will eat them and I worked hard to pick these and I’ll be damned if I am going to let them go bad!
So now onto the fun stuff.
**Note: This is not MY recipe, I borrowed it from Martha Stewart. Gotta love her!
Blueberry Dog Treats
Here’s what you will need:
*1 1/2c oat flour
*2 1/2c quiona flour
* 3/4 flax meal
* 1/2c frozen blueberries
* 1/4c olive oil
* 1 large egg
Quinoa Flour was a new ingredient to me that I have never used before and I was able to find at a local grocery store, however it was a bit on the pricey side, but I loved the fact that it was packed full of protein.
I also chose to go organic when making these treats but you certainly do not have to.
1-Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2-Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
3-Mix all ingreidents together with 1 cup of water to form dough.
4-Roll mixture between 2 sheets of plastic wrap to about 1/4 inch thick. Remove tops layer of plastic wrap and cut cookies how you want.
Bake for 30 minutes until nicely brown and firm.
Transfer biscuits to a wire rack.
TURN OVEN OFF
Place biscuits on wire rack overnight in oven.
Store in airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
What Martha failed to mention about this dough is that it is VERY sticky and for me it WAS very difficult to work with which quickly made me totally annoyed so after I threw a tantrum I switched from my cute little dog bone cookie cutter and just cut squares. I guess there is always the small chance that I didn’t measure the ingredients correctly…but we will never know now!
They did smell wonderful while they were baking and I to admit that Gracie and I sampled one. Gracie of course did not care for them very much which I am sure is due to the lack of sugar, but I thought they were decent.
The real taste testers were of course Sherman and Leroy…and well…………………………………………………….
They LOVED THEM!  Even Leroy liked them and came back for seconds, and thirds and fourths!
Sherman was was even trying to sneak them off the table!
So while I loved that these biscuits are filled with antioxidants and protein I think next time I will have to tweak the ingredients just a bit so that the dough is not so difficult to work with. What the hell Martha?

@ Kirby, I am not sure about grinding the quinoa, it is a new ingredient to me, I purchased it as a flour.@Karen-LOL! The kids ate so many of them the day that we picked them, they may never look at another blueberry again...but I am determined to use them all! Even if it means hiding them:)

$30 of blueberries in your freezer that no one will eat?! Send them over to my house, I'm a blueberry freak!

Tanner would totally have stolen and devoured that whole bowl in the photo by now. Good thing he's busy napping after our biking for the K9Kamp opening at Kolchak Puggle and Peggy's Pet Place!

Yummy! I love quinoa - especially good when lemon juice and herbs are added! I make my oat flour by grinding whole oats which is cheaper. Can I do the same with quinoa?

These sound so good for the pups. Love the pic of Sherman trying to steal some. : )I need to try and make some of these but seeing as I have not baked from scratch for my two-legged family, I might be shunned for baking from scratch for the pups! : )
