4 Things I Learned About Leroy This Week

DSC_04041

Leroy and I have been spending a lot of time together over the last few months.

He’s a complex dog and some of the time that we spend together is better than others but it’s always interesting.

Here are 4 things that I learned about Leroy over the last week.

  1. Leroy has forgotten how to walk on the right side of me. This needs a bit of explanation. When I walk both of the boys together Sherman is on my left and Leroy is on my right. Leroy is stronger than Sherman so he needs to be on my stronger side when we are all walking together. However, since I have been walking both of the boys separate for almost a year due to Sherman’s bum leg, Leroy has been walking on my left side and I’ve been using my right arm as needed. Not a big deal and the change was never issue. Over the last few weeks I’ve started walking the boys together again. Sherman’s stronger and the weather is just too damn cold sometimes to walk twice. Leroy is not taking well to this change and is a complete and total mess when we are walking together. He is all over the darn place and nothing I say or do sinks in. He was so bad the other day that I just turned around and went home before I lost my arm.
  2. Leroy’s eating crumbs off of the table when I’m not looking and even when I am looking. When I feed the dogs at night I always have their full attention as soon as I grab their food bowls. They follow me where the food is kept and sit patiently while I fill the bowls and then head back to the counters. Over the last few weeks Leroy isn’t following me. So the other day I went to fill their bowls but stuck my head out to see what he was doing when I wasn’t looking. To my surprise I found him with his head on the kitchen table licking the crumbs on the table that were left from dinner. I watched him for a few days and he always goes to the spot where Bobby eats dinner. Apparently, Bobby is the one who misses his mouth the most when eating.
  3. Leroy likes to play Twister Rave. Gracie got the new Twister Rave for her birthday last week. Twister Rave is a little bit different than the regular Twister and is based on lights and music. Instead of the Twister mat with the colored dots you just have colored dots and you play music and go off of the lights that are displayed. Yeah. Leroy doesn’t play by the rules, he does everything in his power to stand exactly in front of the dot that you need to get too.Specifically he likes to stand in front of me so that I’m always the first one out.
  4. Leroy keeps me warm. This isn’t a big surprise, but normally I rely on my husband to keep me warm when I’m cold and I’ve been cold a lot this month, but so has my husband and I think the older that he gets the more his body temperature drops. Let’s just say if it’s me, my husband and Leroy sitting on the couch together at night, I gravitate towards Leroy. He’s my top warmer upper these days and he has risen to the challenge by welcoming me with open paws and doggie warmth.

That’s about all I’ve learned about Leroy this week. I’m open to learning more about him this week.

So how about you? Anything interesting that you learned about your dog this week?

Hi I just found your blog and love it. I have 2 rescue Newfs, Hoffa and Dozer. Hoffa would like to lay out in the rain all day and all night here in western Wa. He is so thankful to be out of Fl LOL. Dozer is more of a house boy. Do you have a dog door or just put up with the in out in out in winter? The rest of the year I leave the heat off and the door open.

LOL! Oh Leroy. Imagining him playing Twister was very amusing. ;) Silly boy. Gotta love furry space heaters! They're the best!

I can imagine it would be difficult to play a game with a Newf in your way. I have been trying to do Zumba recently and that is hard enough with a Beagle!

Cute post. Rita would probably love Twister Rave too. Any time I put something on the floor for myself (a yoga mat, a blanket to lay down and stretch) she has to go plop down on it first. Beast. I bet Leroy makes an excellent warmer!

As for Rita, sadly we learned that she is still afraid of sticks/weapon-like objects - even when held by me or her pop. I left the broom leaning against the sofa the other day and was sitting next to it, and she wouldn't come over to me because she was so afraid of the broom handle. Poor mixed up rescue kid!
