Yesterday my husband and I took Odin to have his picture taken with Santa Claus at a local pet store.
Odin wants to tell you his own version of the story so I let him share that right after I say a few things.
This was Odin’s first outing to a pet store and he did pretty well!
He had a little bit of “Landseer brain” which I was expecting and why I had another person come with me.
He also had a little bit of “Odin” brain, which again, I was expecting.
Obstacles that we encountered were getting him into the car which has been an issue but it’s getting better because we’re working on it.
The other issue was getting him to walk into the store through the front doors.
I was expecting this so we were able to quickly adjust and get him sort of calmly through the doors with forcing him or breaking anything.
Now onto Odin’s version:
Friends,
The other day my mom came home from the store and she bought me this plaid holiday bow-tie.

She told me that she was going to take me to see Santa Claus and that the bow-tie would be an added touch to my already handsome self.
We didn’t have a Santa Claus where I came from so mom explained to me who he was and what he does.
I was pretty excited to go see him and tell him what a good boy I’ve been since coming to my new family!
On Saturday morning mom spruced me all up and gave my ears and paws a little trim and then she carefully put my bow-tie on my collar and fussed with it for several annoying minutes.
She and dad then loaded me in the car.

I’m still a little nervous getting into the car but mom has been working on it with me.
I kept getting ready to get in the back seat but then I would change my mind so mom sat in the back seat and enticed me in with chicken strips and dad gave me a little helpful boost.
I was super excited and a little nervous to go see Santa Claus for the first time but mom kept giving me chest rubs and assuring me she would be right there by my side the whole time.
We got to the store in no time and I hurried up and jumped out of the Jeep and dad led me towards the store.

Mom held the door for us and dad and I went to walk through the doors but I lost sight of mom and freaked out a little bit.
I thought we lost her so I backed out of the door and then all of a sudden mom appeared in front of me and everything was better.
When we got through the doors a few nice people came up to say hello and they gave me lots of pets.
People asked what type of dog I was and mom went through her regular spiel.
Then I saw him!
He was dressed all in red with a little bit of white and he was wearing the same hat that I have!
He was a little on the puffy side like mom said he would be and he was smiling and very nice to me.
He had treats too and he gave me one right away so I knew he was a good person!

A few people stood in front of Santa and I and took pictures and I gave them my biggest smile and then I turned around to have a little chat with Santa.
I was able to get a closer view of him and friends, I’m going to tell you a little secret but little puppers please close your eyes.
Santa was a lot younger than I imagined and I think his beard was fake.
He didn’t look like the pictures of Santa that mom showed me on T.V. but he was still very nice and full of treats so I felt comfortable talking to him.
I told Santa all about my new family and how thankful that I was.
I told him how much they loved me and how much I loved them.

I told him what a good boy I’ve been too but I left out the part about stealing the cookie off the plate a few weeks ago.
Santa was very good at listening to me and when I was done he asked me what I wanted for Christmas.
I told him that I already had everything that any dog could want but he said that he would still bring me some toys and extra special treats for Christmas because I was extra special.
I also told him that my brother Leroy has been a good boy and that he should get some toys and treats this year too.
We high fived after that and friends, I’m not going to lie, my paw touched his beard and I nonchalantly pulled it down and it was a total fake.

That’s o.k. though.
I know he was part of Santa’s crew and he would tell Santa all about me.
After that, we walked around the store a bit and mom and dad bought me a special treat and a new toy.
Then I took a super long nap when we got home because that was really exhausting.
Love,
Odin
p.s. Jen here, the plan was to take Odin’s harness off before the pictures so the bow-tie would be more visible but since he was a little high strung I opted to leave it on so he couldn’t slip out.

Odin, you are a beautiful boy. Santa will bring you wonderous things. Glad you have a new family in time for Christmas. Sending big wet sloppy kisses. Abbey, Sammie and Axl (we are Newfs too!)

Aw, how sweet!! I'm glad Odin liked Santa! Ducky's first - and only - visit to Santa was a bit scary for her. But she's been an extra good girl this year so Santa will come to bring her gifts. (He has some for Radar, too, but we'll save those for when we have a new brother for Ducky.)

What is Landseer Brain? I have a Landseer and am interested in knowing the difference in a Landseer & a regular Newfie

Hi Connie. A Landseer is a regular Newfie in the U.S. and Canada. Landseer brain is just a term given to them by their owners. Some people say that Landseers tend to have a little more energy than other colors but of course, that doesn't apply to them all.

Thank you so much for your blog!! After a long difficult day, my Dad passed away recently...... I sat on my couch with my Landseer named Kai. I showed him the pictures of Odin and Santa and read to him about your adventure. You brought a huge smile to this grieving lady and as I looked at Kai I saw a special sparkle in his eyes. I thank you so much for sharing
