Dear Jen, I want to thank you for all of the information you share with others about Newfies. Without it we would be lost. We have always had Standard Poodles and we adopted 2 Newfiepoo's about 7 months ago. No where, and we mean NO WHERE did we read while doing our due diligence any of the truth you speak about the breed. And although we have Newfiepoo's... there is a lot of Newfie in their behavior that we were totally unprepared for. We have experienced every challenge in the book with these two. Oliver and Olivia will be 8 months old soon and we would love to find someone to mentor us along the way if that is possible. So, if anyone out there is willing to lead, we are willing to follow. We had gone through private trainers for our standard poodles and I thought I had training pretty well down until these two came crashing into our lives. I have thrown out everything I thought I knew. :) And realized after a big huge gulp of humble pie I was in over my head. We started the research and haven't stopped. It wasn't until we found you that all of the behaviors we were seeing started to make sense. These will be our last dogs as we are now seniors and we truly want this to be the best experience for us both. We are so in love with these two! Certainly they are more naughty than the 5 standards we have had combined. There is such a uniqueness and depth that is so hard to describe about them. They are deeply relationship oriented and in almost 8 short months have given us such joy. We feel so humbly blessed to have this experience with them. Life is richer and fuller and we adore them. I have reached out to Newfoundland breeders only to be told that they don't deal with "the breed" and walked away a little hurt and frustrated like we are some how less. There really is very little about Newfypoo's out there. As we go through your checklist of behaviors I think the only thing that makes these two different is they have curls. In fact, Oliver has ringlets in places. He's adorable. They are so much more sensitive than our other dogs and we are afraid of hurting their feelings. We desperately want to get this right. Thank you again for all that you share. It has been so insightful. We aren't so sure that the dog training videos of most trainers apply to Newfy's so much and are reluctant to apply some of the principles. In any event, we are grateful.

Hey Jen! We just got our first Newfie (she's a dark grey and her name is May) and I've been spending any spare time researching food and supplements. Of course everyone has different opinions. Is there a supplement you would recommend specifically for a puppy? She's almost 4 months and her parents were VERY LARGE. So I want to make sure she grows nice and slow and that we take care of her joints. My first thought was to do Missing Link hip and joint as well as salmon oil. I know you're an advocate for Natural Stride but I didn't know if you had any puppy specific thoughts. Sorry for the rambling. Love your blog and glad we're in the Newfie world now finally :)
