Let me first start by saying that I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day. We were blessed with a very beautiful day without rain! Woo-hoo!
We had a wonderful morning together before we left for the show.
Too bad the fun didn’t carry over to the show.
To sum it up in one word:
M-E-S-S.
First of all, our handler had called us on Saturday and said that he was having mechanical issues with his van and unfortunately would not be able to attend the show.
So we were left with the decision to not go, or to go and show Leroy ourselves.
Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No
After about 8 hours of debating we finally decided to just go ahead and go to the show since we already paid the entry fees and had planned our day around it. This left me with the task to show Leroy. Which was fine, or at least I thought it was.
So we get to the show and get set up. We get Leroy all nice and groomed, and then head up to the ring.
When we got ringside that is when the butterflies started.
My husband and the kids tried to be as reassuring as they possibly could and told me to just have fun.
Fine. I will have fun and not be nervous.
But as soon as my left foot stepped into the ring I turned into a puddle. It was horrible.
My heart was racing, my knees were trembling and the butterflies were doing flips inside my stomach.
It was just like the stage fright I had as a kid, but there was no running off stage now.
Leroy and I took our first run around the ring and as we were moving his leash snapped!!! The leash came completely unhooked and I was left holding onto his collar.
Really?
This could only happy to me. Today. Awesome.
So by the time we made it back to the judge I was frazzled and Leroy was looking at me with this confused look on his face like ” What the hell is wrong with you lady?” then I realized the leash wasn’t broken it just came unclipped. After that I just couldn’t pull things back together. I was a big puddle of mush.
Leroy took Reserves (2nd) out of 2 dogs:(
The kids were just speechless after I left the ring. I think they were trying really hard to think of something nice to say but just couldn’t find the words. Bless their little hearts.
Lesson learned:
-I don’t want to be a handler, no Sir I do not.
By the time we made the 1 1/2 drive home I was over the shame and have since decided to never attempt this stunt again!
Leroy got over it to and decided that he was not to embarrassed to pose for a Mother’s Day picture with me.
