Up Close And Personal, Big Dog Style

_DSC06392

I was totally going to title this post “Up Close and Personal, Doggie Style” but then I started to think about what the search engines would do with that and I decided to go a different route.

It’s better that way. A lot less people will be confused and I will get a lot less hits from people who are looking for porn.

So now that we have the reason for the title clear, let’s get onto the good stuff.

We got a few more inches of snow the other day and I refuse to go outside in that crap and take pictures anymore this year so I was looking for something new and challenging to do with the camera. As luck would have it, as I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, I came across a post from my friend Mel over at No Dog About It.

Mel had referenced to a post called “The Secret To Taking Awesome Dog Portraits By Elke Vogelsang.” If you haven’t seen it yet, you should check it out. It’s amazing.

So that post gave me the idea to take a step outside of my comfort zone with my camera and try something different.

I looooooove trying new stuff with photography.

I switched up my camera lens and picked Sherman as my first target.

Sherman’s not a big fan of the camera when I’m 200 feet away from him so when I got within a few inches of his face with the lens I had to laugh when he tried to hide.

He warmed up to it pretty quick after I told him I had treats in my pocket if he would just let me take a few pictures.

But I have to tell you this picture below made even me a little worried about what could happen to my camera if Sherman turned on the slobber works.

I made a quick wipe and went under.

It was a risk I was willing to take and lucky for me all was dry at that moment in time.

I got out of there in the nick of time and moved onto getting up close and personal with Leroy.

Leroy is never phased by the camera but he was muttering under his breath after a few minutes of me up in his space when he was trying to stare out the window in peace.

I’m telling you, this dog amazes me.

It’s all him and none of me.

He’s just so soulful.

Now, getting up close and personal with both of them at the same time was more of a challenge.

Especially because it was well known that I had treats, so my camera couldn’t get that up close and personal without suffering some sort of water damage.

I had fun with this challenge but it’s certainly not as easy as Elke Vogelsang makes it looks.

I took about 100 pictures this day and maybe 10 came out decent, but it’s something I would definitely like to try more of.

Oh hello. Aren't you the little miss "I love Winter" girl who was gushing a couple of months ago how much you LOOOOOOOOVVVEEEEE the snow? Yeah, that girl. And now here you go saying you won't step a foot out in that crap. WTF is that about? LOL you know I love you Jenny Juggs and you are about the only person I know brave (or is it crazy?) enough to photograph from under a drool machine. You rock woman!

Those photos are AWESOME! It inspires me to want to try it too. I'm glad the snow kept you indoors so you gave it a try. I am totally with you in refusing to go out if it's snowing anymore....I am SO over the snow and cold this year.

When it comes to search engines and double entendres, discretion is always the better part of valor.
