Dear Leroy, On Your Birthday Here’s A Hat We Made For You

Dear Leroy,

I’ve struggled with your birthday this year for at least the last month. I feel I’ve said all there is to say about you over the last year and there’s not much I can add.

You’re an amazing dog.

You know it.

I know it.

You know I love you to the moon and back.

Trying to find something spectacular for your birthday was challenging.

I mean what do get the most amazing dog in the world?

The dog that already has everything?

You already have all the colors of the Furballz.

You already have all the tiny little GoDog dinosaurs in every color possible.

Heck, you even have your own dog water filtration system now.

If I could give you new intestines I would.

If I knew a person who did that I would hire them.

I’ve already spent the kid’s college funds on getting you better so what’s a little more? They’ll understand.

But since that’s out of reach right now, We made you a birthday hat.

It probably doesn’t look like much to you.

It’s just a paper hat with some stars on it but I can assure you that it’s made out of love just for you.

It’s not actually the hat itself that’s special but more the thought that went into it. Maybe one day you’ll understand.

I thought about this hat for weeks.

Sure I could of went to the store and bought you one but you deserve more than a store bought hat and I had ideas.

I spent more than hour in the craft store looking for just the right items.

It was suppose to have big round happy circles on it but the craft store didn’t have any of those.

I bought 3 different colors of construction paper because I just didn’t know which one would look the best.

At one point in time I had 5 different packages of fuzzy balls in my hand.

I made my final selection when the store announced it would be closing in 10 minutes and that I had to bring my purchases to the cash register immediately.

I felt a little pressured and unsure of my purchase.

As I was driving home I thought ” Damn it! I should of gotten the white fluffy balls and boa.”

I couldn’t go back because the store was closed so I had to make due with what I had.

Saturday night I began construction on your hat. It’s normally a night that I would of been spending with friends sitting on their patio having a few beers but this night I needed to be home making your hat so I could leave time for error.

“Nope. Can’t hang tonight. Have to make Leroy a birthday hat.” Was our response when a few friends called to hang out.” Nobody made fun, nobody second guessed it because it’s you and they understand my devotion to you.

Gracie had to step in and help with your hat when her dad saw that I was about to have a melt down because I couldn’t get the hat folded the right way.

We immediately consulted Google and came up with a good plan of action.

Full construction took only about an hour and while I do like the way it turned, it out it looks more like a wizard hat than a birthday hat and it’s also kinda of festive for the upcoming holiday.

I hope you’re ok with that.

I think it was meant to turn out that way because you’re more than just a dog, you’re our wizard. You’re our magic.

Don’t worry.

I know you’re not that impressed with the hat. The hat absolutely means more to me than to you but somehow I think you know that which is why you sat so patiently with it on.

We got you a birthday cookie and a few prizes too that we’ll give you later today. Gracie even made you a card.

Happy Birthday Mr. Roy. We love you bud. Here’s to many more years.
