On Sunday morning my husband and I went out to run a few errands. When we returned home Bobby immediately stopped us in our tracks and said “It’s Home Run Derby time.”
Dude? What?
You just can’t call a Home Run Derby like that without warning. The Browns game is on in 45 minutes. <–is exactly what my husband and I were thinking AND we’re old. We need time to prepare our bodies for something like that.
However, my husband is not one to turn down a challenge so him and Bobby grabbed a bucket of balls, a bat and their baseball mitts and headed up to the ballpark.
As soon as they left I glanced over at Leroy who was eagerly sitting there and I said, “Yeah. I don’t want to miss this either. Let’s go!”
I grabbed my camera and off we went.
It was a gorgeous afternoon. Sun out, cool breeze and we had the ballpark all to ourselves.
Bobby was up first and hit 3 out of the park.
Next up was my husband who hit 0 of out of the park.
I was told that this was just a warm up and then I was instructed that I was ball girl and Leroy was ball dog and we had to go collect the balls.
Leroy was a bit more eager than me to run around the field AND ignore all the baseballs that needed to be collected but I obliged.
Next it was time for the boys to hit again and Bobby hit 4 more out of the park and my husband hit a BIG FAT 0 out of the park once again.
Needless to say Bobby won the Home Run Derby and I was quite disappointed with my husbands performance.
The guy I married USE to be able to hit at least 1 ball out of the park.
Bobby even asked me before they started who I thought was going to win and I told him his father.
I basically told my son I had no faith that he would win (<-bad parenting) and I wound up putting my foot in my mouth for the man I’ve been married to for 15 years today.
Honestly though, it’s the first time he’s disappointed me in 15 years so as long as he whoops Bobby’s ass in the next Home Run Derby I’m o.k. with it. 🙂
Oh and Leroy had a blast roaming the field. He pooped out after his first run around the perimeter so he was happy Bobby let him play right field…after all…. it wasn’t getting any action while his dad was batting 😉
p.s. In case you’re wondering, I did have a few swings behind the plate. I also hit 0 out of the park and had some sore arm muscles that evening. In my defense, the bat was a little heavy for me 🙂
p.p.s. Happy 15th Anniversary to my husband. I love you to the moon and back and always will. <3 Here’s to many more years!

Happy bleated anniversary to you and your hubby. I would also hit zero out of the park. I am sure it would be finny to watch...lol.
