The Best Way To Spread Holiday Cheer Is Giving To Newfies Far And Near

The holidays are a time for spreading love, giving joy and doing good and what better way to do that than to bring joy and happiness to Newfies that are less fortunate than ours.

That’s why instead of doing our annual gift guiding guide for OUR Newfies,  I decided to switch things up and do a holiday guide that gives you the option to give to Newfies in need.

So if you’re looking to spread some Newfie cheer and have a few extra dollars to spend here’s a couple of ways you can still give a gift to the breed close to all of our hearts.

Donate to a foster Newfie. Newfie’s are in foster homes all over the world and they need toys, food, and treats. Locate a regional rescue group in your area and look to see what they are in need of. You can even scroll through the rescue groups Facebook page and have a look. Minnesota Newfoundland Rescue just took in a beautiful Newfie boy named Bridger and they have an Amazon Wish List set up for all their foster dogs. There are items on there for just a few dollars.

Give a donation. Donate to the Newfoundland Club of America Trust Fund. “The mission of the Newfoundland Club of America’s Charitable Trust Fund is to secure donations, to manage and distribute funding in support of research grants to study health issues affecting Newfoundlands, to provide necessary monetary aid for Newfoundland rescue assistance, and to award educational scholarships to junior Newfoundland fanciers.”

You can donate in your name, in honor of your dog, in memory of a past dog or in honor of a dog that you know.

Purchase a Newfs Gone Bad Calendar. All proceeds from this calendar go to Newfoundland Rescue and they can be purchased on the Newfs Gone Bad Facebook Page.

Apply to be a foster family for a Newfoundland for rescue or offer to help with a transport in your area. Rescues are always in need of people who can transport.

Don’t have any extra money to spare? No problem! It costs nothing to be kind and we know the world needs more it, so do it! Send a kind email, make a kind comment or even share a picture of your Newf! No one is ever going to turn a picture of a Newf down!

Keep the working in your Newfie. One thing that has brought me so much joy these past few weeks is seeing all the pictures from tree hauls around the country. Not only did the pictures make me smile but also the comments about people working on draft training their Newf this year so that they will be hauling next year! If you’re interested in carting, reach out to someone at the NCA or you can read our article on Carting With Your Dog 101 which will point you in the right direction.

And if you’re not interested in doing draft work you can always look into doing water training, therapy training, nose work or whatever your Newf seems driven to do!

We didn’t forget about the Newfs in need in friends in Canada either! Newf Friends has a list of ways that you can easily donate and they even an online shop filled with loads of good Newfie stuff and 100% of the proceeds go to Newfs in rescue.

Spread some joy, be kind and love your fellow Newfies!

Newfs are such fun dogs. My daughter got to handle one over Thanksgiving and had a lot of fun. He was under a year old, so just a (huge) puppy!
