This Weekends Show Report

Welcome to another show weekend report! I was hoping this was going to be the last one to report this year, but alas it is not. I fear that my goal of having Leroy finished by his birthday is just not going to happen. I guess if I want to look on the bright side, that means we will be able to attend more summer shows, which are always funner than the indoor/winter shows. Oh well…anyway….
This weekend we showed 3 days up in New Castle, Pennsylvania. This was our first outdoor show of the year.
Friday was our best day with Leroy taking Winners Dog and Best of Winners, which means he beat the dogs and the bitches and he got 1 point.
He should of gotten 2 points, but 1 of the bitches was excused for bad behavior in the ring, so that dropped the points down.
Saturday Leroy took 4th out of 6. Which just goes to prove anything can happen at a show. Different day, different judge, different winner.
(Leroy is the 3rd Newf)
Sunday was a HOT one with the temps in PA reaching 90 degrees. The Newfs didn’t show until 12:45 in the afternoon, which just annoys me when they schedule large, double coated breeds so late in the afternoon in the summer months. The ring was directly in the sun with little shade so the Newfs were feeling the heat. On hot days like this we do our best to keep them nice and cool by bringing squirt bottles filled with cool water to mist them down and squirt in their mouths,  we also use cool towels for them to stand on.
Anyway, Leroy took Reserves (2nd), which was ok, because once again we were up against some very good competition.
All in all it was a roller coaster weekend, which is just the way  the cookie crumbles in the show world.
Next week we will be doing a 2 day show up in Toledo, Ohio and hope to pick up a few single points.

Congratulations! I am constantly amazed by all the time and hard work that goes into showing. I agree with you on the large, double coated breeds. They should be first thing in the morning!

Congratulations Leroy!!! Getting WD & BOW is not easy so you must be very proud of yourself for getting those placings! I love how your topline stays dead level while standing AND moving. My hoomie Melissa loves dogs with toplines that stays absolutely level especially when the dog is moving. Not often will find dogs with solid toplines like yours, Leroy. We see too many severely roached & swayed toplines in Goldens here in the Malaysian show ring. Anyway, congrats once again! Hopefully you'll become a Champion real soon.
