Our 10 Most Popular Questions Answered!

Between our social media accounts, the blog, and email, we get a lot of questions asked every single day.

I never mind answering questions so please keep them coming, however, I thought that it was about time that I made a post dedicated to some of our most popular questions so that they could have a landing page and be easy access for anyone that may need them!

What Walking Harness Does Odin Wear?

This is probably our most popular question over the last several months, especially on Instagram where I post my daily walks with Odin.

I use the American made Adapt Control Harness by Duo Gear to walk Odin.

He wears a size XL and is currently 117 pounds.

If you are interested in a harness from our friends at Duo Gear and you have a Newfoundland or another giant breed dog I highly suggest that you reach out to the owner, Raj either on the website or by direct message on Instagram and give him the measurements of your dog.

He is the nicest person and goes above and beyond to make sure that you get a harness that fits your dog properly.

I also have a code that will give you 30% a harness.

That code is NEWF19

Finn also wears the same harness but in a small.

Duo makes the Adapt Control Harness which is basically an escape-proof walking harness, a regular walking harness called the Duo Eclipse Adventure Harness, and a no-pull harness called the Duo Direct No-Pull Harness

Duo Gear is a small company based in California.

How Old Is Odin?

We think that Odin is about 3 1/2 years old. He was about 2 1/2 years old when we adopted him last year and our veterinarian believes that age is just about right.

What Kind Of Dog is Finn?

Finn is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi.

To be even more specific he is a black and white Cardigan Welsh Corgi with brindle points, also known as a Tri-color Cardigan Welsh Corgi.

What that means is that Finn is black and white with areas of brindle in his coat.

It’s hard to tell in some pictures but the inside hair on his ears have some brindle, his cheeks have brindle and his front and black legs have small amounts of brindle.

Black and white Cardigans can also have tan points.

What Harness Did You Use To Lift Sherman and Leroy?

The Help ‘Em Up Harness is the lifting harness that I used for Sherman and Leroy when they were older and struggling to get up.

I highly recommend it to anyone who has a senior Newf or a Newfoundland recovering from surgery like a cruciate repair or Newfies with moderate to severe arthritis.

I wish I would have gotten this much sooner than I did because it made life so much easier for the boys and for me.

I wish I had a discount code for you but I don’t.

I purchased this from K9 Carts but you can also purchase it directly from the company

I used the XL and it was plenty big if not too big especially for Leroy.

Where Did You Adopt From?

We adopted Odin from Newfoundhaven in Oklahoma.

If you’re looking to adopt you can also check HERE for a list of Newfoundland rescue groups.

Are You Going To Get Another Brown Newfoundland?

100% yes.

I can’t tell you when just that all good things come to those who wait. At least that’s what I’ve been telling myself.

This Newfie will be from a breeder.

Where Can I Get a Brown Newfoundland?

A good starting point is to check the NCA list for breeders of brown Newfoundlands.

Keep in mind that this is a starting place and not all good brown breeders may be listed.

Also, keep in mind that there are only a handful of reputable breeders that have browns in their breeding program so you will probably have to wait a bit just like I am right now.

What Type Of Food Do You Feed Odin?

Odin is on Victor Hi-Pro for large breed adults and puppies.

This is what he came to us on and since he was doing well on it, I didn’t change it.

He also gets chicken breast, vegetables, pumpkin, and coconut oil.

I also mix in bone broth every other week to his food.

His food is on auto-ship through Chewy.com.

Where Did You Get Those Dog Cones?

The cones that I used for Leroy to help with his mobility and the cones I use with Odin for fun are called the MiMu Hurdle Cone Set.

I purchased them on Amazon.

They are a great training and exercise tool to have on hand!

How Often Do You Give Your Newfs a Bath?

I give my dogs a bath when they need one.

This is usually about every 6-8 weeks or more depending on the weather.

I recently purchased the eZall Bath Kit and it makes a world of a difference!

Those are the top 10 questions I get asked on almost a daily basis.

I hope this helps to answer some of YOUR questions and if you have any more, please ask away in the comment section!

Hi Jen! I just ordered the duo direct no pull harness. Thanks a bunch for the discount code! My two year old landseer sisters outgrew, and can out pull, our beloved Rabitt Goo harnesses. Time for something more substantial. These two girls pull more than my black, grey and brown Newf's ever did! I'm hoping the duo direct will help me "redirect". Thanks again!

Hi Melinda, Please keep me updated on how the no-pull direct harness works! I'm so interested in seeing it in action with the Newfs!

I can see how and why you'd need the eZall bathing kit for Odin; but I'm curious as to what you use for Finn's baths. (I would think the eZall would be a bit of overkill for a Corgi. ?)

I do not use the eZall with Finn. It would knock him into the neighbor's yard. Hahahaha

Hi Jen, I love your article. Do you use the shampoo that comes with the EZALL wash kit or another dog shampoo ? Thanks, Barb

Hi Barb, Thank you for the kind words! I use a different dog shampoo and dilute it :)
